Today's Wairarapa Times-Age newspaper has a large colour photograph on the front page of Gene De Marco with The Vintage Aviator's D.Va Albatross. According to the article accompanying the photo, the replica is fitted with a restored original Mercedes 80 h.p. engine and it will definitely be flying at the airshow on Saturday. When I get home from work tonight I'll see if the photo is available online and if it is, I'll post it in this thread. If it isn't online, I'll scan the photo directly from the newspaper. Only five days to go now!

On the front page of today's Wairarapa Times-Age (09 November).... Great to see the Sopwith Triplane is going to be displayed. It has been around for almost a year but I haven't seen it in the air yet. Looking at the photograph of the Albatross, I recognise it as the aeroplane that flew over my place a few days ago in formation with either Gene De Marco's Stampe or a DH.82 Tiger Moth. I had just got out of the shower and was stark naked, so I couldn't go racing outside for a good look and as a result I only got a brief glimpse of it and wasn't 100% sure of what I had seen until the photograph was published on the front page of today's Wairarapa Times-Age.

I will be there... Most likely will be around the TVA stall helping out with the Wingnut Wings kits.. or floating around somewhere around the planes taking photos!
Dave, it will be great to see down here! These shows that TVA put on are great! They are close and personal, there's not normally a huge crowd

I will probably be wearing shorts and a dark navy-blue Mount Cook Skiplanes tee-shirt. If things get a wee bit chilly, I'll put a cream-coloured Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre vest on. Zac has my mobile number and I have his, so no doubt I'll locate him (or he'll locate me) and I have met ErrolC earlier this year, so I know what he looks like.
We could always set a definite time to meet up at The Vintage Aviator merchandise stall — any preference, timewise?

Shall we go for 1pm at the stall?

Well after calling in at Black Sands on Saturday arvo, I have succumbed to the pressure and booked to fly down for this show. I fly AK - WN Friday morning, and return Sunday late afternoon. Staying with Peter Layne and we will be driving up to Masterton for the day.
By my reckoning the crowd will be: Zac ErrolC kiwithrottlejockey Moeggo tbf25o4 Dave Homewood fockewulf Gavin Conroy (if the weather is good!) campbellbox flyernzl

Superb! I think the TVAL stall at 1pm is a good idea. Can't wait to see the Tripehound fly at long last, as well as the Albatros and seeing the FE up close. Bring on Saturday! I'll be on the field from 12 I think.

We'll find out where The Vintage Aviator have got their merchandise stand when we get there. It shouldn't be too hard to find though, as they don't have many stands at TVAL's mini-airshows. Just look out for the stand selling The Vintage Aviator tee-shirts and caps, and Wingnut Wings models.

Morning all! A quick look at the MetService site before I head down says the following for Masterton: "Fine, possible early frost. Northwest strengthening." I hope it doesn't strengthen too much. See you all at Hood!

Morning all! A quick look at the MetService site before I head down says the following for Masterton: "Fine, possible early frost. Northwest strengthening." I hope it doesn't strengthen too much. See you all at Hood! I can confirm it is a beautiful sunny morning in Masterton. The southerly has completely gone and there is no wind at all right now I just got out of bed (I didn't get home from work until about 1:00am). Fingers crossed that the nor'wester doesn't get up too much this afternoon. Ray Deerness is proably going to be at the airshow. He emailed me last night (while I was at work) asking for a morning weather forecast so I've fired one off to him. He reckons he will probably be there by about 1:30pm and he has got my mobile number, so we'll manage to locate each other okay. 2½ hours until the gates open!

Wind too high for the WWI designs. Displays by P-40 and Harvard, and taxis by FE2, Albatross and BE2.
Option of refund, or replacement entry to January or ANZAC shows.
Datalink went away after a couple of hours, so couldn't do more updates, sorry.

It was the RNZAF Harvard. Flickr isn't liking my vids from my point-and-shoot, so you might be out of luck for a couple of days from me.
