When i heard about the desecration of these graves on the radio this morning, I was very angry. There is a moral line when it comes to respecting and honoring the dead. There have been some good points made here though. I don't know if this was to pay back the West for burning the Muslim Quran, but no doubt Muslims feel about their most sacred book, as we do about our war graves. I don't understand why NATO was burning ANY books in the airbase, and if they had to, why weren't they checking them? I hope they catch the people who ruined the war graves, just like i hope the people in charge of burning the Quran at that airbase are held accountable for the irreparable damage they've caused.

Hi All, This is my Airfix 1/72 Widgeon painted in Amphibian Airways colours. It is painted as ZK - AVM. AVM was purchased from Australia in 1950 by Amphibian airways. It flew with this airline in Southland, and Stewart Island until 1961 when Amphibian airways was merged with Tourist Air Travel. ZK - AVM was also flown by Mt Cook Airways, Sea Bee Air, and most recently Salt Air. It is now stored in South Auckland. ZK - AVM was involved in the rescue of RNZAF Harvard pilot Graeme Millward in 1962, who bailed out of Harvard NZ1094 into the sea. It was too late in the day to get a Sutherland out to pick up the pilot so the RNZAF requested help from Tourist Air Travel. ZK - AVM picked up Graeme Millward in the dark, and flew him to Whenuapai. ZK - AVM also did a wheels up belly landing at Whenuapai in the 1960's. A defective undercarriage leg prevented a proper landing so AVM diverted to Whenuapai, escorted by a vampire jet! Anyway here are the pictures of my one.

This guy makes decals for NZ aircraft, including RNZAF models. He may be able to help you. He has heaps of DC3 decals on trademe and can probably whip up a set for you. Just be warned, there has been mixed reviews on this forum about the quality of the decals. Some appear to be better than others. www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Profile.aspx?member=862415

That looks really good. Nice to see a DC3 in a non military scheme. I too am interested in what is wrong with oldmodels' decals, as i have been tempted to get a few for civil aircraft, but wouldn't if they are no good

The picture of NZ553 is labelled as a DH89 Dragon Rapide, but is actually a DH86 Express

What are eyebrow windows? I made the decals with the windows, as it didn't have windows at all.

Just adding to the above info: The one Cook Strait Airways Rapide that did not got to Fiji, was , ZK - AGT (NZ558). It was struck off charge in 1944 from the RNZAF, and became ZK - AHS, flying for Air Travel NZ, NAC, and West Coast Airways, and Mt Cook & Southern Lakes Tourist Company, before being gifted to MOTAT, where it still resides.
