The final days of Autumn, with Summer but a distant memory. The following photographs were taken during the lunch-hour today while on a flight from Christchurch to Invercargill. The Southern Alps with Aoraki-Mount Cook prominent in the centre of the photograph.... Looking across the Canterbury Plains towards the Southern Alps (including Aoraki-Mount Cook) with the Port of Timaru in the bottom left-hand corner of the photograph.... Central Otago.... Looking across Otago towards Mount Aspiring (the prominent high peak on the horizon).... The hills of Southland with the mountains of Fiordland in the background.... The weather in Invercargill is a bit of a mixed bag today. A lot of low cloud and occasional drizzle, but intermittent sunshine as well....

It snowed for about 30 minutes at my place from about 3:50pm (it got quite heavy for a little while), then it suddenly stopped and the clouds lifted and we got a bit of sunshine before the sunset. The snow melted away fairly quickly once the sun came out.
Now, it's mostly clear skies with a big, bright almost full moon in the sky. It's going to be bloody freezing overnight by the feel of things.

Finally, after far too many weeks of unsuitable weather, unserviceable aircraft, and insufferable people I managed to commit aviation today!
(Even if it was only in the C152).

KWTJ - yes that was a good dump - I see outdoor bowls and cricket were cancelled LOL! No kids anywhere either, not surprising really. The swing bridge over the Waipoua River looks quaint and "pretty". I remembered one snow at Easter, myself and other 7th form classmates were up in the Blue Range Hut and I went outside to pee at 3am and went back in and woke them all up!! As you do... they made me lead the way out in shorts that Monday morning!! That was Easter 1971, but there was another major snow dump the same year later on. Hmmm, I recognise that street HAHA! Chewing gum....
