Very strange. I would have thought it more logical to land in TGR and bus the pax to ROT. Aircraft and crew stay overnight in TGR with early ferry flight to its starting point (ROT?) this morning to resume services. Back in the early 1960s my father as Senior Ops Officer for NAC had to be st Whenuapai to oversee the early departure of two Viscounts (one to each of Wellington and Christchurch)so to start flights on time. It was a very early start and was achieved.

Forecasting 150kph wind here this afternoon. That would explain why the airport has been closed,a bit outside the crosswind component of a 172.

The track of the current cyclone "Gita" looks like she may give the north Island a bit of a go, always feel a bit vunerable this time of year when the cyclones start showing up??!!
