Dunedin Harbour would be a good size for it. plenty of vantage points Where I live at Harwood on the Otago Peninsular it is only 15 metres from my front gate to the high water mark so I can regretfully inform you that the Otago harbour is far too shallow in all but the narrow shipping channel for it to be a viable venue. Have a llok on google maps or marinetraffic.com and see for yourself. Pity, actually, as otherwise I could sit at the dining table and watch them go past! Getting off subject just a wee bit, but i remember staying in a crib at Haewood way back for xmas or it might have been just after. It was 1970 I think as pops was there and he passed away in 71. anyway, there were 3 families staying at this once place and dad borrowed bread truck to bring everything down, unloaded , then took it back. After he left we smelt smoke over the back fence and an aunty went to investigate. Not long afterwards she came running back with massive flames chasing her. Turned out to be quite a big fire and we got on the news when the fire brigade came and used all the water from the big tank outside the house. I remember the aunty being in a state and she wouldn't move their car and mum smacking her across the face to sort her out. Anyway to keep us kids amused we were taken to a shop to get ice creams etc. This was probably before your time there. I might have to check google maps to see what street it was etc

That's because the HQ of Emirates Team New Zealand is in Auckland.
Exciting racing, even with a loss today to ETNZ.

I was unable to watch the race this morning but was able to tune into Radio Sport and listen to the live coverage from Peter Montgomery and Craig Monk. It was far better commentary than the TV One team. You don't even need to see anything with Pete Montgomery. I see what you were saying Beags. Although at one point Pete was calling Oracle Alinghi for some reason! Old age I guess.

Yep, agree there. Both Martin (I'll make just one more flippantly obvious comment before I get interrupted by Pete) Tasker and Peter (Ill just talk over Tasker who just makes blatantly obvious comments rather than talking us through what's actually happening) Lester make the racing a bit painful.

WTF? Race abandoned? Why? Americas Cup is a complete farce.

It's crap. So far ahead and time expired. Should be the boat in front that wins when the margin is so huge. Oh well, another race I guess. It was supposed to be made more of an exciting spectator sport but it's turning more into a cricket test match.

Yeah, they're doing 15-20 kts and still can't get arount the course fast enough.
The time limit should have been a progressive one such that as each mark is rounded it resets to a shorter time to the finish. So would still be a limit but if a boat is making good progress they might still get the win if they can cross each mark in time.
Having to wait 30 minutes to repeat the race takes up more time than it would have taken to finish.

The commentators were saying that Australia II suffered the same fate in 1983 when 6 minutes ahead of Dennis Connor. So the rule has been around for a long time. Maybe the courses were shorter, surely the old 12 metre yachts would have struggled to make the distance required of the AC72's even in strong winds? The race has restarted now, Team NZ ahead. Let's hope they can pull off another good lead...

Stupid 40 mins rule. TeamNZ obviously knackered and let their heads drop after the first cancelled race. Oh and... Yet again one more to go!

No - boys will be fine Dave - keep the faith.
Classic Ray Davies, " bit of a bother that" after getting stuffed by the clock. Didn't do great in that last race, but these guys are tough.
Tomorrow fellas will be the day !
