I am with Dave. The whole thing is rigged. The guys on the committee boat have all got new Lamborghinis and the city of San Fran and the TV networks get the extra income. We are now into weekend viewing in the States so don't be surprised if this drags onto Sunday arvo their time. NZ will still win but we could be looking at a boost Monday morning now. What a way to start the new week....

You guys are on separate buses on the same route. Anyway another race day tomorrow, let's hope the frustration ends then.

Well after my 50 years of sailing and racing that was a bitter pill to swallow!!! BUT that's sailing for you and the rules are the rules just like any other sport. So dig deep everyone as macpants said "ONLY ONE MORE RACE".... Who said it was going to be easy. It will be even more sweet when it happens right..

yep, there was somwe swearing and cursing in my lounge watching it this morning. I thought yep, this is it too, then going fatser deano, faster, but no luck. Then it stuffed it up on that second race.
Looks liek we need some light to med winds for our next wind as that other boat is quite fast.

The commentators were saying that Australia II suffered the same fate in 1983 when 6 minutes ahead of Dennis Connor. So the rule has been around for a long time. Maybe the courses were shorter, surely the old 12 metre yachts would have struggled to make the distance required of the AC72's even in strong winds? The race has restarted now, Team NZ ahead. Let's hope they can pull off another good lead... Think I heard the commentators say that the 40 min rule was decided on for this format of racing so as to allow 2 races to be completed ( hopefully ) in a 2 hour TV time slot . I imagine the time limit would have been different for earlier series (I dont recall them doing 2 races back to back - did they )?

Nope I seem to recall they were much longer races, one per day, in most of the years they have screened it on our television screens.
Good to see some actual sail changes today, and that Oracle had a gear failure because of this, which is what used to be a big part of the excitement in the old races and has been lacking substantially this year.

How much simpler aviation is compared to" messing about in boats". The aviators "kick the tyres, light the fires, and it's off we go into the wild blue yonder". America's Cup on the other hand can't be sailed because the wind is too strong/too weak/blowing from the wrong direction/crew have run out of hair spray....whatever!
Please, please, let today be the last day of this Gilbert and Sullivan opera!

Having a gliding competition is very much a similar experience either waiting for the thermals to develop or adverse weather to clear, normally sitting on the airfield looking at the sky hoping the day lasts long enough.

Jeez not looking good, the boys need to do some work on their boat, slower by 1 or 3 knots in most legs

And what's more, if the US wins two more races - that is nine wins (or 7 pts) and they are going to challenge the legality recent penalty ruling of two points = two wins (ie 9 wins; -2 pts or not -2pts). So one way or another, if there are two successful races tomorrow, it will be the end of the America's Cup for this season. Battle will be won by US in court or it will be a Kiwi win.

Personally I think we need to be the first to score 9 wins ( not points ) , to claim a " moral " win . That way we will have won it on the water ( if we even do ) , not by a lucky penality imposed that could give us a " legal " win . Still time , so fingers crossed !

Not only have Team New Zealand been out-sailed the past three races, the racing has been dull as dishwater too. I was almost starting to enjoy it but it's losing my interest again now.

Have some faith. People don't win anything by not believing in themselves, and that they can win.
People forget that ETNZ has had 3 race wins taken off them through reaching the wind limit and not crossing the finish line within the time limit.
They need to win the start, stay in front at the first mark and make fewer mistakes.
Easier said than done. The guys on the boat have to perform so give them your support. I'm a little peeved by the fair weather fans in the country that seem to have bailed now that the going has gotten tough.

"People don't win anything by not believing in themselves"
I'm sure they do seem to believe in themselves. Whatever anyone else thinks of them, positive or negative, doesn't mean a thing.

Call me a sceptic but I stuck $10,000 at $3.80 for an Oracle win. To think half an hour earlier would have been looking at a $70,000 return. Do you reckon that will guarantee a first up win for ETNZ in the morning ? I certainly hope so.. 12 more hours guys,

Yes, I'm all for TNZ to win the start tomorrow with a Port entry and control the race from there - all over rover!! Regatta won - Americas Cup in NZ hands again. Go Emirates Team NZ!! Chin up, and smile, we ARE OPTOMISTIC!
