Yes, Takanini has a great array of shops now and is literally a stone's throw from Ardmore.

Be aware please I will be away from home from tomorrow morning so any of the last minute emails to me will go unanswered. If you are wanting to come along but have not arranged with me before now, please show up at 9.30am with the cash to pay your $20 per head ticket price, and bring a folding chair and your lunch with you.

It's not just me. John "JK" Kelly and his NZ Warbirds team have been doing a lot of work to make this event happen too! And Larry Hill needs credit for the Spitfire flight idea. And Doug Brooker and Frank Parker also deserve a huge applause, and all the speakers too who're giving up their time.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along today to the forum meet. What a great turn out, and what a great bunch of guest speakers! A really interesting day! And lots of interesting aeroplanes too. It was great to catch up with so many friends and to meet a load more people.
I want to say a huge thanks to John Kelly and his wonderful team of NZ Warbirds volunteers who put in a huge amount of work and planning to make today happen so well, and to the speakers who all did a great job. Special thanks to our several WWII veterans who made the wonderful effort to come along and speak.
I am pretty tired now, home safely and downloading photos to the PC. I'll add some here and on Facebook in due course. Thanks again everyone.

Oh and, no thanks to the weather that put the kibosh on the Spitfire flights. Bugger. Hopefully these will happen at the next Warbirds Open Day in November instead.

For those unable to be there... An awesome day... not great wx so no flying, but an awesome bunch! In front of us sat 6 x gents in their early 90's. While aged 21-25, they flew Defiant, Lancaster, Mosquito, Halifax, Wellington and Lincoln bombers in the Battle of Britain. The most awesome and humbling q and a session I've ever been to! I look at the maturity of many of our 21-25's and wonder what the hell has happened! Many thanks to Dave, NZ Warbirds and all involved with giving us a great day out. Pete

Here are a few photos from me. Not great I'm afraid, I should have had a play with the settings to combat the lighting conditions but I never thought to. John "JK" Kelly welcoming us all to NZ Warbirds Brett Nicholls talking about his Strikemasters Gavin Trethewey giving a great talk on flying the Canberra Mark Halliwell talking about the Skyhawks, which he flew in RNZAF service Our Bomber Command Veterans Panel - left to right are Alan Taylor (actually an Army Captain in Korea but a long time member of NZBCA and the Lancaster restoration team). Roy Montrowe (Wellington and Mosquito pilot), Reg Dunbar (Wellington and Defiant Wireless Operator-Air Gunner), Bill Petersen (Halifax pilot), Keith Boles (Oboe Mosquito pilot), and Des Hall (Lancaster Flight Engineer) Peter Wheeler posing questions to the bomber veterans Gavin Conroy talking about his recent air to air photo shoots overseas Alan Peart and Jim Robinson beside the Spitfire that they were supposed to be flying in, but the crosswind put paid to that. They will fly in it very soon though. Frank Parker talking about what it's like to fly in the Fw190 reproduction Larry Hill talking about the No. 81 Squadron Spitfire veterans Alan Peart and Jim Robinson Alan and Jim thanking the audience for their kindness and generosity in making their impending Spitfire flights possible Geoff Cooper presenting Alan and Jim with another surprise, vouchers for a DC-3 flight with Fly DC-3 Warwick Jones talking about the Royal Aeronautical Society Grant McHerron of the Plane Crazy Down Under Podcast who had flown in from Melbourne just for the event And you can see a lot more photos from me of the day on the Wings over New Zealand Show's Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.858203720886740.1073741866.528909900482792&type=3And one last one of a very worried looking organiser taken by Kerry Carlyle...

Congratulations Dave. It looks like it was a great Forum meet. Pity about the weather but there's always a next time. Wish I could have been there to meet up. Did Gavin show you some of his extraordinary shows over the canola at Temora?

Yes it was a great forum meet and quite cool sitting outside having lunch beside the Spitfire! Teresa has some photos from the meet and our other activities in Auckland. Ill put the forum related ones here and start another thread for the others. And once again I flew home with an Auster part, this time crammed in the suitcase! Plus a rear view mirror (same as on Doug's Spitfire) from Andy at Avspecs for Anthony Galbraith's T7. Since I cant see Me109s attacking him I presume its to check his makeup in flight. (Mind you there could be a FW190 back there one day! Well done to Dave and Warbirds it was a great day.
