I have started using Flickr now on other sites and it is working well. How do we load photos across to this site Set up an account at www.flickr.comUse the Flickr upload page to load your photos to there. Use the sharing functionality at Flickr (the arrow symbol on each photo's page) to generate the code to paste into a forum post. rnzaf.proboards.com/post/216660/thread

Given that this has happen to lots of forums there must be bits pf software about that would automate the replacement of the lost links once all of an individuals photos have been relocated. Not impossible, but it would either have to be done link-by-link (ie you give it the PB link and your account with another hosting service, it searches (how? filename? magic image match?) your new hosting service account and gives you back the new link to replace it with), or have a version that deals with each type of forum software (eg Proboards) so it can hunt through, find your links, and replace them with new links. And I wouldn't be surprised if such a system started to be used widely that PB would block it.

Note Flickr's "Guidelines" www.flickr.com/help/guidelinesEspecially: It is possible to extract just the code that provides the actual photo to display from the string of BBCode generated when you use the Share functionality. Not leaving in a link back to Flickr (that a forum user can click on) breaks these "guidelines" (which are actually rules). Also:

I got an email from Photobucket yesterday explaining that, as they have noticed I use third-party linking, some features of my account have been disabled. You know, the ones they disabled more than a week ago.

Yep, now I've got my images downloaded and unzipped, I have deleted my account at PB...told them to jam it where the sun don't shine (politely!)

Ok, so for the average joe blogs, who has just started scanning photos for this site, what is the solution? What are others using and which is likely to be the survivor?

Yep, now I've got my images downloaded and unzipped, I have deleted my account at PB...told them to jam it where the sun don't shine (politely!) When my current paid subscription to Photobucket runs out early next year and I likewise pull-the-plug on them, there will be nothing even remotely polite about my correspondence with them. I will be letting the hidden faces behind Photobucket have it with about a dozen or so barrels and I won't be holding anything back.

Click on the 'Share Photo' arrow to the bottom right of your actual photo on Flickr (to the right of the star). Then the 'BBCode' bit at the top right of the window that pops up. Choose the size of the photo that you want to appear in the forum. Copy the string of code starting with "[url..." using Ctrl-C (for Windows, or whatever keys Apple use). Then go to your forum post and paste the code in to it (don't use the 'Insert image' icon, just Ctrl-V in the body of the post).

Ahhhh finally thank you Errol! Stupid me was trying to share the whole album. Only one photo and I thought I was already looking in the album. Phew thought I was going crazy not seeing on Flickr what you were saying was there! Regarding downloading photos from PB. I take it you have to download one album at a time, you can't do the whole lot at once?

I had to download mine one album at a time, once you get into it it's not too onerous. They email you a link to a one-time download when it's ready (generally within 5min).

I am using my personal server to host photos and linking them from there.
Others seem to be using Flickr.

There appears to have been an update on Photobucket which relates to pre-existing paid accounts:
If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017, you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your subscription.

After problems I recently had trying to work out posting photos using Photobucket, I did a dig around on the Net and found this real easy to use (free) Web Image Hosting site (Postimage.org): Click on this thumbnail and read a brief description of all about it. It's just a matter of uploading the photo and then click the right hand box in the "Thumbnail for Forums" link, to copy the link to enable pasteing it in your post. The only drawback is that the image will not show in your post as full sized, but if the reader wishes to see the full sized version, all they have to do is click on the thumbnail - as per the above thumbnail There is even a button to click on if you wish to download a copy... or share it via email, Facebook, etc. ...Try it - you will find it very easy... and there is no need to even create an account with them!
