I have been very happily looking back through the P-40 Pile at some photos I knew were in there but I could not see and the Wayback Machine had omitted to copy. Happy as, now!

My operating system is Linux Mint 17 and I use Google Chrome. I've installed the extension but it doesn't work for me. I had a look on the Chrome Web Store and found another extension called "Fix Embedded Photobucket Images" and installed that but still no joy. I've shut Chrome down and restarted it.... still no better. The only thing I have not tried is restarting the computer which I'll do shortly. If that works I'll let you know. Failing that, anyone else using the same systems as me and had success?

Nope, restarted computer but still no cigar.... It's really great to hear that it works for all you fellas though. It really is terrific that you discovered this extension Marty and posted it. I'm just sorry that I have to be a 'fly in the ointment!" (There is always one!!!!)

Yipee!!! I just removed the extension that you had a link to for Google Chrome Marty, and then just using the other extension "Fix Embedded Photobucket Images" (by a different Author) it worked! Marty, I think you have made quite a few people very happy tonight (including me) so I totally agree with Dave....

Brilliant I have held off reloading on another provider and praying for a miracle. My prayers have been answered. Works great.

Dave - As admin do you have the ability to view all posts in a thread on one page? - You used to be able to in an older version of proboards using the print options
If you do, it would be easy download a few threads and all of their photos in context as a backup of some important threads
Meh - looks like they removed it in the last version so you would need to do it page-by-page. If anyones keen, you push cntl-S to save the page - select "web-page-complete" and save to a folder on your PC - it will save the page along with all of the images into a linked folder.
Could be worth doing to a few threads while the PB photos are "online"

Unfortunately when I tried to save an image it was saved as the PB ransom graphic, but by using Print Screen and MS Paint I've been able to grab a couple of things.
Dave - I'll go through and save certain threads in the Wayback Machine for posterity.

Unfortunately when I tried to save an image it was saved as the PB ransom graphic, but by using Print Screen and MS Paint I've been able to grab a couple of things. I have already worked it out Zac, on the photo you want to save, right click and hit 'Open image in new tab'. It opens the photo in Photobucket and you can see it, then right click the photo there and Save As. It works. The Wayback Machine is the saved backup already. You need to be backing up threads not saved by the Wayback Machine, like the Rukuhia pile and P-40 Pile.

Printing to a PDF will get all the pictures OK as this takes the page as you see it; This PDF can then be exported to HTML to get the images out individually or copy/pasted out of the PDF - the only problem being that it renames the image to the order of the image on the page.

You need to be backing up threads not saved by the Wayback Machine, like the Rukuhia pile and P-40 Pile. That's what I meant Unfortunately after savng the whole of Rukuhia Dump, P-40 and Corsair - and up to page 40 of Shorty's stash I saw the ransom graphic was back. Very disappointing. But only on the Wayback - I can still see the pics in the live forum.

But what I meant Zac is you need to be saving them off the forum, not the Wayback, as it is far from complete, as you have now found out. Plus Wayback does not seem to save the photos in full definition seen on the forum, they seem a bit reduced in quality.

I don't need to install anything.
Because I've still got a paid subscription to PhotoBucket (nope, not their HUGE rip-off price) with several months to run, I've always still been able to see all of those photos, including the ones sourced from freebie accounts. They've never disappeared for me.
Mind you, in a few years time, after so many people all over the world have migrated to Flickr and set-up free accounts there, Flickr will no doubt run into the same problem PhotoBucket ran into, which was being way too popular and having so much bandwidth sucked out of their servers that wasn't paid for, and with advertising revenue dropping off; with the result that Flickr will no doubt pull a similar stunt with people who aren't paying.
Unfortunately, there's no such thing as infinite free bandwidth and it always has to be paid for by somebody. It's an unfortunate fact of life. PhotoBucket isn't the first image storage provider to run into that particular problem and react by pulling the plug on the free accounts, or at least severely restricting them.

I have a Premium? Acct with Flickr only for US$30 a year I think - can upload 30 photos a day or something. My Dropbox acct for 1TB is US$10/month, that was a bit heavy I thought...

But what I meant Zac is you need to be saving them off the forum, not the Wayback That's what I was doing: saving the photos from the rejuvenated forum, then adding each page of the threads to the Wayback for future reference. But after saving the threads to the Wayback the images in that version were replaced with the ransom, rather than the actual photos that were there when viewing the forum.

Ok - I was looking at the Dakota file, particularly the DC 3 thread, and all I had was the ransom photos. Just looked again now and its back to being able to view them. Hmm - will keep an eye on this. I was looking to see what photos had been posted in the past, to try to avoid doubling up.

No one has to tell them, they can see what their servers are delivering. If there is an increase in images delivered, they can investigate.
