I agree, it looks excellent, very reminiscent of the painting by Conly on the back of Warren Russell's Corsair Special book. Great work.

Thanks guys I appreciate your comments as I find it hard to get motivated after a long day/week at work and a 3yr old climbing all over me the minuite I walk in the door! Lets see if this image is any bigger.............. Unfortunately you cant see all the varying subtlties and weathering in the paint. I will try and get better ones this weekend Thanks again Anthony

Interesting choice in paint scheme Anthony. I'v never seen a RNZAF Corsair modelled in this scheme. I was aware some had a all dark blue paint scheme. Anyone have any details on why they changed from what looks lie the USMC scheme to what looks like a RN FAA scheme?

Maybe its a Japan-Occupation colour scheme?

Hi Calum Yes it is a little different from the usual RNZAF pacific type markings. This Corsair along with all the other Brewster built FG-1D's that we operated arrived in the overall Glossy Sea Blue scheme and were assembled at Los Negros and test flowen by 4SU 17sqn before being ferried to NZ. They had rocket stubs fitted which our previous ones didnt and were painted with the barred pacific blue/white/blue markings. 14sqn was then to be sent to Japan as part of the post war Occupational Forces, certain airframes were chosen, the pacific markings were over and RAF style "A" type were applied. Even some home based ones were painted in this manner also. Thats just a quick overview of how they ended up in this scheme. Here is a couple of pics. Check out Pete Mossongs website for a more in depth story on them. Cheers Anthony

Also check out Bryan Cox's excellent trilogy of books, as he was one of the 14 Squadron pilots who flew in the J Force in Japan - he has several photos and memories in the books.

Hi, took these today after adding some more stencilling and added some very light exhaust staining with the airbrush set fine with blacks, greys and browns. But you cant really see it so maybe some light pastel work later. hope the image isnt too big now!! Cheers Anthony

Hi to all. Looking good Anthony, but one correction to your notes on the colours - the FG-ID's were built by Goodyear, not Brewster!
As Anthony has mentioned, check out my site as I have a section up covering 14 Squadron's service in J-Force. My Late Father served as an 'erk' up there, so I have been able to use original pics from his album.
Cheers, Pete M.

Anthony, that last photo really does show up all the detail you've put into this beautiful model.
Thanks again for sharing this with us.
I have read that the Brewster Corsairs were pigs of 'airplanes' with many quality control issues during/after assembly. I also have a feeling they only actually built a tiny number too; something like 300 or so?

Yes I heard that too.
If you love Corsairs then you have just got to get a book called "Time Capsule Fighter, Corsair KD 431" This is the FAA Museums plane that has been taken back to original WW2 paint and lovingly preserved and catalogued.
I picked mine up last week and it is a stunning glossy hardcover book, I cant recommend it highly enough and it is a lot of book for $75 NZD.
Thanks again
Anthony

Thanks Smithy
I have been finishing off the u/c, sprayed the prop hub and started some very subtle paint chipping on the canopy rails etc. Its starting to bring it to life a little bit more.
Cheers
