Yep, she certainly is looking great, Anthony. I love the missing chunk of starboard wing decal from a replacement ammo compartment door, and the fuel spill marks from the fuselage tank too.
(By the way, does anyone know if the FG-1D had the fuselage fuel tank leak problems that the F4U-1 and F4U-1Ds had?)
I'm still wondering how you're going to be able to post this Corsair to me without it getting broken by Australia Post? ;D

Thanks! I havent figured out how to post it either, seems it will be more difficult than building it. Please dont hold yer breath for too long waiting for it!!! :-))
I imagine there were the same fuel tank leak problems with the FG-1D's also, as quite a few pics I have show the fuel staining from there also.
Dont see many on the later -4 & 5's though do you.
Cheers

Hi Guys A quick update, havent been able to do much lately because of work etc. I am just making up the little wee mirrors & leavers inside the windscreen at the moment and then the canopy will go on, the seat and aerial wire are all that needs to be done. Do you think I should shoot a more matt coat over the top surface? I did another but an thinking it should be more matt. Cheers(excuse the image sizes while I practice!) Anthony

Very nice paint job. Subtle weathering too. Look forward to seeing this in the flesh. I understand 2008 Nats are in Dunedin (2007 in Wgtn).

Don't know why - after the success of your Avenger, you should feel confident at the level you're building at.

Thanks for that. I guess its just that I think all finished models are great, and I get great enjoyment at seeing them at all levels. Someone had words to me about my Avenger at the Nats about a couple of things he thought I had gotten wrong and went on and on about it. I knew he was incorrect in what he was saying as I had researched it thoroughly (often I enjoy research more than doing the model), I knew what he was saying but there was no point argueing as he seemed to consider himself an expert.
It was the first time I had ever entered a competition and although it annoyed me a little and knocked my confidence, I just remembered he was only one person out of hundreds of great and interesting people.
Thanks again
Anthony

Sadly you do strike people like that. You find them in all fields, not just modelling. They may be completely right based on the evidence they have seen, but they may not have seen ALL the evidence, just some. They still won't have it though, you can't argue with them. I'd rather model for pleasure and stay away from the club scene than have some pedantic twit telling me my work is wrong.
But I definately agree with Craig that your work is very much worthy of entering into competitions, even if to just show it off.

Mr Galbraith, if you don't enter that Corsair in a competition I'll be very disappointed with you. ;D Fantastic work there, and don't let one idiot knocking your Avenger (which IS awesome too!) hold you back. Ake Ake Kia Kaha!

Thanks again Anthony Guys like that annoy the hell out of me. Without being arrogant, I've lost count of the number of times I've overheard conversations like that, knowing they are wrong, knowing I can prove they are wrong, but not intervened. It's not worth the stress, and you'll not convince them anyway. They are a big part of the reason I don't club model, too many guys who need to get out more often that give the hobby a less than perfect image (well aware that I am making a sweeping generalisation, but you know what I am talking about). That said, I did once lean forward in a movie theatre after a guy pronounced to his girlfriend in a smug voice "That's a Gypsy Moth" (opening scenes of "The English Patient" if you're wondering), and gently said "Umm, actually it's a Tiger Moth" loud enough for them both to hear Great looking Corsair by the way. Thats about my least favourite scheme for the hose nose, but I like it anyhow.

Thanks mate, couldnt have said it better myself.
I know it isnt the prettiest of colour schemes either, thats why I chose it. Something a bit different. My next Corsair will be in the usual weathered 3 tone scheme. Warren Russels book has a couple of corsairs in there with the upper surfaces so faded that the U.S star is showing through our Pacific ones.....looks quite cool, and I have been practicing with my airbrush to see if I can achieve the same effect, which I can, but the problem is making it all look realistic in an overall paint job.
Next one already on the bench is the Hasegawa A-4K in 1/48 scale, will start a new thread as soon as I glue the rear view mirrors etc into the Corsair canopy and glue it on.
Was going to do it tonight but been in the garden all day and am having a quiet beer..................beer and models dont mix for me!
Cheers all
Anthony

Small update, as things have been a little hectic as of late and modelling has been on the back burner. I finished off the canopy today with all the mirrors, latches & levers. Not much I know, but when you are as painfully slow as I am its a big thing. Cheers
