I am seriously considering putting together a page for my website on this Skyhawk scheme to put all the information and photos in one place, if you and Glen and others will allow it. Would you be happy for me to do that with your words and photos? Full credits will be given. Great idea Dave. I have a lot of photos of it and can send you a CD if you want? Let me know.

Yes please. I'll send a PM.
I think a page on the Golden Skyhawk won't go amiss on my other airshow pages.

Actually Phil, they're older than 20 years old, so are now credited to Air Force Museum.

I love that second shot you posted, and the first one became a New Zealand Wings cover of note.

Resurrecting an old thread here. Does anyone have any good clear shots of the top of the nose of the B&H Special and in particular how the tri-colour stripes meet up? Trying to do something about the woefully inadequate Model Alliance decals, but need a good reference shot to see what the stripes do (masking and painting these is going to be fun! Not!!!).

talon: From a photo by Glen Turner I can say that the bottom edge of the blue bands either side meet in a point at the top of the black nose topping. If Glen Turner is around to give permission a photo almost showing this could be put up. Sorry don't know how to contact Glen Turner at moment.

Glen Turner is currently overseas so proabably hasn't read this. One detail of 56 that no one else has picked up yet is under the nose on the flat fibreglass F3 panel there was a black rectangular area that wasn't painted gold. It must have been something to do with the doppler or ADF antenna under there. In Jenk's photo above you can just make it out. Here is another one from the 2 Sqn unit history that shows it as well if you look hard (sorry about the quality it is a photo of a photo).

I remember Barry Cochran and Sid Kendall from my Ohakea days, Red Sullivan from Auckland, and Steve "Stench"Leech from Wigram. Some of the other painters'names are familiar too.
As I am staying with Don right now, he told me of this thread resurfacing and it reminded me that I have all but, but not quite, completed my webpage on the gold Skyhawk. It got put on the backburner and forgotten. I need to get back onto it and link it to the site. There's a lot of great info on it from those involved.

Fantastic stuff everyone. Is there a PC TTF font that matches the one used for the serial, RNZAF, etc? I have the means to print some VERY accurate decals and any and all info would be very much appreciated.
Steve, Any chance you have some good shots of the 150 tanks side on? I have finished clean up of the Red Roo resin ones, but they are missing a lot of detail and I haven't found anything with the clarity of your images to show them yet. I mainly need to add the small oval inspection panels on the sides.
Also, sizing info on the RNZAF on the top of the wing would be good too (or a good top down image)?
Guess I should really get some in progress pics too.
Dave, How about a link to your web page as is?
Craig.

talon, I can recall the specific KAHU font being mentioned somewhere. Searching this forum gets no result but perhaps the wrong search terms have been used. Anyway at the time the specific font was mentioned (some years back?) I looked for it online, without luck also. Then forgot about it obviously. :-(

I can't recall what the link is Craig. I know it's online but not linked up to the main site. Sorry, you'll have to wait till I get home in a few weeks.

Universe J has been converted into a font. Next time I'm passing by the paintshop I'll grab a copy off the PC and PM it to you. There are a few bugs in it but we use it still to cut signwriting masks for aircraft.

Me three. I can convert it and actually use it to create some accurate decals.
Steve, Any vector artwork you also have would be appreciated (for personal use only of course). Want to do this one justice. The tank image certainly helps. Do you have similar of the opposite side as IIRC those panels were not symmetrical (any chance you could zip and email all the images you have - would definitely make it worth your while).

One other thing it shows me is how horrendously wrong the Red Roo tanks are. Even with the corrections I've done, they are still works of fiction! Will get hold of a set of TwoMikes ones and compare.
