Great photos Jenks - keep 'em coming! Note the arrestor hook colour - was it dark green or black?

All this is just reminding me how good '56 looked in the scheme. Long time ago now.....

Ahhh yes, all those years ago. Fresh on Avmech course at Wigram and remember the slow march down the length of the Wigram tarmac in front of the B&H Special.

Just received a pair of TwoMikes 150 gallon tanks today. I can safely say, if you want these in 1/48th scale, get the TwoMikes ones. You need the fins from the kit, but the shape is spot on. The Red Roo ones are far too anemic (even though the length is correct). I also received the TwoMikes Escapac seats for the A-4 and their 300 gallon tanks and they are all far superior to anything else that is available.

sorry if im resurecting old dogs here, but as a few of you seem to be pretty familiar with this aircraft does anyone know what the actual main body colour was? it appears to be more bronze than gold. Me and my partner are building it in 48 scale for her dad for fathers day and i want to get the colour right. Any advice would be awesome.

Another piece of information about the golden scheme. It also had gold painted bomb racks for practice bombs. For one sortie we even painted some practice bombs gold.

Thanks to my workmate at Peter Tolhoek (ex RNZAF) I now have my own copy of the RNZAF Golden Anniversary Air Pageant poster with the awesome photo of the Golden Skyhawk going straight up!! Peter said he found a pile of them thrown in a rubbish bin at Wigram!! It needs a bit of cleaning and there are a few minor holes (almost like punch holes?) in a couple of places but apart from that its perfect. I'm going to get it framed to preserve it. I like the Adult charges for the Airshow: $10! Obiwan27 and myself went to the Ohakea show with a group organised by one Ian Brodie(of Wanaka Fighter Pilots Museum) in a charted ANZ Friendship.

Quite expensive that. Last year's Whenuapai Open Day was just $5.00 to get in.

Looking at the thread above and comparing the actual aircraft I think it's not too bad, but the aircraft colour when you look at the pics on the thread is a more 'yellowy' gold and a gloss finish. This is more of the traditional 'metallic/shiney gold' colour. Not sure if you can mix up a special batch and experiement? Others more qualified than me in such matters would be able to advise you. Good luck.

It might just be the photos, but that does look a bit too coppery.

I think you are right, it is more bronzey. Is there such a colour available that you could do a test patch/comparison with?

either way, coppery or bronzy or whatever you want to call it, it doesn't quite seem right to me. I would suggest it needs to be more of a yellow gold.
