Hi guys, can anybody shed any light on the colour of the arrestor hook on the Golden Skyhawk??
Sometimes I think it is gold and other times it looks like it may be a dark colour....any ideas???
Cheers Anthony

It looks dark probably because of where it is but I think its Gold. Prior to this it had stripes on it but its definitely one colour in the gold scheme.

From a few pages back in this thread, Anthony: The arrestor hook was definitely black. I'll dig out some more photos and post them over the weekend. However, the photos didn't seem to eventuate... ? The only pictures I have where the arrestor hook is visible, it's in shadow and therefore inconclusive.

If you look on my webpage at Steve Jenks' photo of the aircrfat in the paint shop showing a close up of the roundel still backward after the old has been painted, the hook is clearly black. It's no longer striped like it had been in the grey scheme. www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/RNZAF_50th_Anniv_Skyhawk.html

Aah yes, you might be right there Dave. I didn't think her hook was fitted, but when you look at those pics it is down and appears black. I had heard several refs to it being black and this seems to confirm it.

Which explains why it always looks so dark in photos, it's not just shadow, it was black, I'm sure of it.

Well I painted the hook on mine semi-gloss black, so anyone who goes the same way with their model won't be alone

Did the aircraft have the black RNZAF title under the port wing as well as above the starboard wing?

Never mind - found the answer out - it didn't have the title underwing.
BTW, for anyone interested in modelling this aircraft, I took the April 1987 edition of the old IPMS New Zealand Scale Dimensions into ModelAir this afternoon. For those not familiar with the publication, it has paint chips of the gold, red and blue paint used on the actual aircraft in it.
Did a comparison with all (yes ALL) of the different brands of gold paint they had on the shelves (along with the blue - already matched the red).
If you want a perfect match for the gold paint used, get, from the new Italeri range, 4672AP Metal. Grass Brass. It is an exact match for the gold paint chip with no need to add anything. It disappeared against the chip when I applied a small amount.
For the blue, the Air Force did not use a standard roundel blue, which most people get wrong. It is actually quite a bright blue. Tamiya X-4 Blue is a near perfect match.
