Right across Government there is a strong move towards shared services and collaboration - and many skills are being centralized in 'centers of excellence'. SSCs is involved because it runs the Major Project Assurance group who run the ruler over all large state sector projects - this is not unique to defence. See www.ssc.govt.nz/gatewaySure looks like its getting serious!

Should be a great weekend! Will be v. interested to see what else the USAF brings. And seeing the Hudson, Sabre, and Meteor again will be seriously cool.

I think you will find that Dave's comment is more directed at steering clear of the boundary between fair comment and defamation rather than how the items were disposed of. And from a readers's perspective, I support that.

Great to see the panel arrived safe and sound Peter. Looking forward to seeing it installed.
Any more progress on the interior since the last update?

This was on the display at Ohakea earlier this year and those driving the project attended the forum meet at Brendan's hangar on the Friday night. It looks just superb in the flesh!

And you can buy one if you want. There was one on eBay recently for $80USD.

Great thread Peter. The Hunter is looking fantastic! Many will recall DH Devon NZ1821 / ZK - UDO that was written off in a hard landing at Ohakea in 2006. This aircraft has a long and fascinating history, including being the Wigram Base Commander’s hack, complete with City of Christchurch coat of arms on the fin. Here is the fin, without the coat of arms! And the cockpit section being delivered to storage The cockpit has been in dry storage for the last few years. The previous owners had stripped the cockpit of most items. I am gradually collecting a wide range of Devon items to reinstall in the cockpit; here are several replacement panels for the cockpit If you have any Devon parts for disposal, both aeromedia and I would be keen to hear from you!

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I am not a helmet expert but it’s a fascinating area because the RNZAF tended to mix and match equipment. I understand that the RNZAF used SPH-4 helmets but in many cases with an SPH-3 dual visor, and which looks quite different to the helmet depicted in the 1981 photos. I have been fortunate to be given this Gentex visor shield for an SPH-4: Unlike those featured in the 1981 photo, the visor shield has no ‘nut’ in the middle. For those interested in the SPH range, a starting point is this link: reviews.ebay.com/SPH-Helicopter-Flight-Helmets?ugid=10000000002054827Essentially I am looking for photos so I can recreate a Red Checkers helmet using this visor shield. Hope that better explains my detective type exercise!

Thanks Dave. I had looked at your site; full of lots of fascinating information.
I think the 1973 photos show a MArk 1A helmet, not an SPH. The 1981 photos also show another helmet type.
Hopefully a photo turns up .......

Does anyone happen to have photos of an SPH flight helmet as apparently used by the Red Checkers?
I am looking to recreate the helmet but would like to know what it looked like.
Many thanks.
