I would be very happy for it to reside in my shed! It's a piece of kiwi history and hopefully it will end up somewhere that enables a wide range of people to see and appreciate it.

Welcome Finn
Lots to see in both cities! I am sure you will get lots of advice but a quick starter for ten aviation wise
Auckland MOTAT museum / Meola rd site at western springs for aircraft including Lancaster, mosquito, skyhawk etc Ardmore airfield, including avspecs and the NZ Warbirds visitor centre Auckland War Memorial museum, which holds a spitfire and Japanese Zero
Christchurch RNZAF museum at Wigram. At least one of the forum members is a guide Ferrymead. Aviation section is well worth the visit. CHCH airport including the Deep Freeze base And 1 hour south, the Ashburton Aviation museum, including Harrier GR3 etc
Do you have specific dates yet?

Now that would be fantastic! My understanding is that the orginal owner was demobbed at war end, but I am double checking to see if there is any possible connection. Thanks for the suggestion. I have been double checking the blades against each other and now suspect that they may 2 parts of the same prop; depending on which angle you look from, they are very similiar. The bigger blade has cleaned up well And yet another propeller that needs ID'ing. This one is some 1770mm long, is laminate, and has 8 bolt holes in the hub (underneath the barometer). There are no numbers or markings. The story is that it was won as a 'war bond' type raffle prize in Hastings during WW2 and remained with the owners until I acquired it. Suggestions?

Thanks for interest but no numbers present unfortunately.
Blade 1 matches the rough shape and profile for those found on pictures of Hinds...........
Blade 2 looks subtly different having matched both starting at the tip.

I have acquired 2 cut down propeller blades and am keen to try and find out what aircraft they came from. The blades have no marking but are wooden, almost certainly ex-RNZAF (came from a gentleman who was in the RNZAF during WW2) and known to date from WW2 or just after. Blade 1 is roughly 1220mm long, 250mm at its widest and 80mm thick at the end. My guess is something like a Hawker Hind. Blade 2 is roughly 850mm long, 245mm at its widest and 50mm thick at the end. The pitch is finer than on blade 1. All suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks

Lots to see and do around here.
To help sick children recover, try dizzy lizzies ice cream parlour next to the silverdale wharehouse or the movies at whangaparoa. They might like the factory outlet shops at silverdale or the billabong factory shop in Albany. Hobby city in Albany depending on whether they like that sort of thing. The Plantation at the southern end of the beach is always good for a burger etc. once everyone's better, hire a bike in Orewa and ride around the estuary on the bike trail. The hot pools and slides at waiwera are alway fun for kids.
For your military fix, just take a walk along Orewa beach and see if you can spot the 5 pill boxes scattered around. A wander around Shakespeare park at the end of whangaparoa is interesting, including a good view of the navy camp. Heading down to devonport (Mt Victoria, North Head, naval museum), Narrow Neck and Castor Bay battery are all good places to visit for those who like coastal defence sites.
I think other have covered most of the aviation stuff, but don't forget the Auckland War Memorial museum with the spitfire and zero. If you go out to Ardmore, check out the Warbirds hangar and get a good look at the A4.
Enjoy!

Indications are that we may see a USMC CV-22 Osprey at Avalon this year; "A cross-section of U.S. military aircraft and equipment are scheduled to be present through static displays and aerial demonstrations including the USAF F-22 Raptor, C-17 Globemaster III, F-16 Fighting Falcon, B-52 Stratofortress, and KC-135 Stratotanker, and a U.S. Marine CV-22." see www.pacaf.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123337069That would be very cool!

Devon 1821 was a wreck when i located it at Dairy Flat but the remains now reside in my garage. Some say it's still a wreck!

Does anyone know why the RNZAF B757 isn't flying at Avalon?
