Using the background photo above I have the following compassion together for a painting. There is quite a bit of artistic licence is being used. I then drew this to canvas ready for painting.

Thanks David I have now changed the description as you suggested. Agree entirely with David's comments. The painting is superb. Following their RNZAF service, two of the four served NAC on the Auckland to Suva regional service. As some of you know, my father delivered ML792 to New Zealand between October and 2 December 1944. There would no doubt have been four Sunderlands in the painting had it not been for ML794 being hit by RNZAF Lodestar NZ3514 over the Hen and Chicken Islands just before the Sunderland formation arrived over Auckland. ML794 was towed to Bream Bay by a launch after landing in the open sea and finally arriving in Auckland on 5 December. Amazingly both aircraft survived. The Lodestar landed at Whenuapai minus almost its entire starboard tail section. Along with the Sunderland, the Lodestar also joined NAC. Funny thing happened after I had finished the painting a Ken Schwabe rang me up to say how much he like my calendar and as we talked (30-40 minutes) I told him that I had just finished this painting and he said it was his brother that was flying the fourth Sunderland that was hit by the Lodestar. Had a really enjoyable talk with Ken.

Thanks for that (DAM) Do you know which of the aircraft above had the long air intakes like "U" as it would be easy to just change the letter than the whole painting. In the "book Strike and Strike again" they said there was only a total of 9 ships? Sorry the was Date was 15th July 1944

"The Morning Ground Crew" 75(NZ) squadron at Mepal in Ely, Cambridgeshire being bomb up for a mission. Oil on Canvas 1010x760. This painting was started in September last year and I have been working on it ever since. I would say I have put in well over 200 hours into it and have really never done anything this involved before. There are a lot of subtle tone especially in the sky that has not one out but photographing oils is a funny thing.

Nice! On average how long does each drawing take? each drawing takes about 20 hours. though some have taken longer. the Typhoon one for example took 42 hours, as it is A2 size (650x350mm). The other drawings average 400x320mm

During the RNZAF Tattoo in Feb 2017 there will be an art exhibition in one of the hangars (to be decided) as what happened at the last air show at Ohakea. We are looking for any artist interested in participating in this exhibition. The theme is obvious aviation and wait for conformation exactly what from the air force.
