It's probably been mentioned elsewhere on the forum but what are the silver dots on top of the Strikemaster wings for? Yes , it been discussed berfore . If I recall correctly they are inspection holes to look for cracks . The Strikemaster has a history of wing fatigue ( now that the hours are getting higher ) and so the wings are inspected quite often ( so often that they dont bother doing a nicer looking repair / covering to the inspection holes .

Anyone have any news on progress to rebuild the FW190 following its Omaka mishap? No ( hopefully somebody else will ) , but I see on the Classic Fighters website that they are " hoping " to have it display at the 2017 show .

I would think quad bikes are more dangerous. Depends on how you define " dangerous " . There are tens of thousands of quad bikes in use , often doing many hours of use every single day . Sure , we hear about lots of accidents , but the media seem to like reporting every single one . Accident rate per hour of use would actually be pretty low .

With Yealands being up for sale now is there any rumours about whether this will have any effect on the sponsorship? Is it for sale ? Marlbrough Lines bought a very large chunk of it ( something like 80 percent if I recall correctly ) only a year or so ago .

Surely he would have reached " terminal velocity " ( no pun intended ) in just a few hundred feet , so really the rest is just for " show " ?

Pierre, a French fighter pilot, takes his girlfriend, Marie, out for a pleasant little picnic by the river Seine. It is a beautiful day and love is in the air, so Marie leans over to Pierre and says: "Pierre, kiss me".
So our hero grabs a bottle of red wine and splashes it on Marie's lips.
"What are you doing, Pierre?" shrieks Marie.
"Well, my name is Pierre, the French fighter pilot, and when I have red meat I like to have red wine!"
His answer is good enough for Marie and things begin to heat up. So she says: "Pierre, kiss me lower."
Our hero rips off her blouse, grabs a bottle of white wine and starts pouring it all over her bosom.
"Pierre, what are you doing" she says.
"My name is Pierre, the French fighter pilot, and when I have white meat I like to have white wine!"
They resume their passionate interlude and things really steam up. Marie leans over once more and softly whispers into Pierre's ear..."Pierre, kiss me lower."
Pierre tears off her underwear, grabs a bottle of Cognac and sprinkles it all over her private region. He then grabs a match and lights it on fire.
Patting the flames out furiously, Marie screams, "PIERRE, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!?"
"My name is Pierre, the French fighter pilot, and when I go down, I go down in flames!"

I see its only for a photo of a Grumman Albatross , and the seller only lists about 4 countries that they will post to . ( you are probably right though - I imagine it automatically fills your country in , if you are not one of those specificly mentioned )

Grant you should have given me a shout would have been great to catch up (no Auster contamination honest! ) I did seriously think about that Baz ( wouldnt have minded checking out the Auster either ) , but I was there to watch the youngest daughter play U19 netball , which took most of the weekend . I did get to check out the Wigram museum for an hour or so , which was about all my spare time ( after the compulsary shopping with the wife )

I guess many wont share my view - but most of those buildings were nothing more than standing rubble , requiring rebuilding litterly from the ground up ( ie pulling down and starting again ) at a cost vastly greater than a normal construction of the same size .Is replacing an historic building with a building of "similar style " , actually preserving history anyway ? Dont get me wrong , it is a sad loss to see so many historic buildings go , but I dont feel there was any choice in most cases ( unless someone were to step forward and spend insane amounts of money ) . I was down there last weekend ,and I was staggered at the amount of work still going on to basic infrastructure . If it were just about a coupple of buildings then one could expect central Government to help out to preserve history , but the scope of this disaster has been well beyond that . Just my opinion

I think its a bit of a cycle thats been repeated before , hasnt it ? Air NZ chase the higher profit routes , which leave a void for smaller airlines ( such as Sounds Air ) to operate . The smaller airlines do well ( because there is money to be made from the smaller routes - if you run suitable aircraft and timetables etc ) . Air NZ then suffer a bit of a downturn in profit on the bigger routes ( either due to harsh economic times , competition , fuel crisis etc ) so they buy a smaller ,profitable airline ( Im thinking the likes of Air Nelson ), which they then run in a slow downward spiral , till they start the whole cycle again . Of course I may well be wrong , so feel free to point out if thats the case .

Perhaps the Marlborough Aero Club needs to find a wealthy benefactor who can finance similar legal action. The aero club did fight the aplication to sub divide at the time , but failed . I believe the problems will come when existing councillors are gone ( and the way they are behaving , that could be sooner rather than latter ) and new councillors will be forced to look at noise complaints on there merrits - rather than following the guidelines put in place by this council . There are rules requiring better insulation and double glaseing etc for houses to be built there , the council say this will be enough to prevent noise complaints - yeah right ! One of the runways ( 01 I think ) has aircraft passing almost over the subdivision , just after takeoff ( ie low height and high power ) .

Looking at the subdivision plans the entire area concerned is near but not adjacent to the airport boundary. Omaka's AIP VFR plate shows circuit traffic is directed away from that area (except possibly those on finals for 19). Do I dare be optimistic? The developers had already protested a proposal to build an avaition related engineering facility on bare land to the north of the AHC . They stated that it would increase noise levels in the area of the new subdivision . Their protest was denied , but its still a BAD sign .
