Things have changed a bit (I hope) Only the number of 0's at the end of the figures have changed . The money still doesnt go any further ( possibly not even as far )

Gee , thats a pretty good show of aircraft performance ,to pull back up so quick ( although almost certainly not deliberate ) .Would be a good airshow trick ( if it could be consistantly performed without the parachutes that usually follow such antics )

Craig ( nzompilot ) had a pretty neat one at the last Omaka airshow . He could be one to ask .

I recall hearing the story going something along the lines of ( for the exercise ) " the Strikemasters were playing the part of Skyhawks , the Skyhawks were playing F16's -- but the F16's really were F16's ( obviously ) . I only heard third hand , and long ago , maybe someone else knows more ?

There must be more of this story to emerge, as merely stating "indefinite delay" is completely inadequate on the part of the contractor. Couldnt agree more Mumbles , I just hope somebody has the balls to say " we actually need those aircraft " , sooner rather than latter !!

So its something to do with the aircraft itself then ? Perhaps where the fuel is being carried makes a difference , i.e. perhaps the centre tank keeps the fuel colder than the wing tanks ( or visa versa ), therefore the position of the fuel load would affect temperature ? ( hope that sounds reasonable -I pretty much just made it up ) ;D

Wow , some really cool stuff , thanks Baz . I would think the collision is probabaly the result of some sort of landing " incident " , that has resulted in the B29 sliding on its belly ,( looks like it would have already been on its belly before collecting the mustang ) .

Im intregued by the reflective " saftey triangle " on the vehicle attending to the Humvee ( just like as if it were broken down beside a motorway ). I wouldnt have thought it would be a good idea to draw extra attention to one particular vehicle ?

All the NZ Herald did was to republish them. Agreed, if that was the case (I understand the NY Times just made a one line mention of their presence, but no photo). But there is (or should that be was) an accepted convention in New Zealand that any published photos or footage of currently serving NZSAS would not personally identify soldiers without permission of Defence. It is the breaking of this unwritten rule that has caused the current dismay. As someone with two friends currently serving in the unit (neither shown in the photo in question) I would hate to think of any friends of mine being put at risk just to sell a local paper. The Herald over stepped the line. I think what you have written shows the problem exactly . There should NOT be an " accepted convention " , nor an " unwritten rule . It should be law !! You can not punish someone for breaking an unwritten rule ,like you can if its law . Newspapers can and will do everything in their power to sell more newspapers . I accept this would not stop forign papers , or internet , but it would at least show our own country cares .

No idea about R2800 , but my understanding is that Allison exaust valves were indeed sodium filled , and required a level of caution .

Does anyone know what the fuselage is with the upward-firing cannons, it looks Japanese? I have no idea whatsoever , but the writing on the side doesnt look like Japanese ( to me anyway ) . Mabey Russian ? Very cool pictures , thanks .

Sure looks like an awesome day had by all . I assume those rusty looking things recovered from the dump near the end of the video were sodium filled valves ?? ( going by the the comments about not hitting them too hard )

sure looks like a Dave Crail. Wonder what happened to him. Unless hes moved recently , hes been living in Blenheim for some time . Could be wrong , but I think hes a builder . Not sure about now , but he used to be fairly active in the local glideing club . -- Quick check of the phone book , still shows a D Crail , pretty sure thats your man .
