Re Reply 52 there is mention of Eddie Trudeau, suspect this a typo, name should be "Tredrea." E.M.H. Tredrea ex TEAL.

A.E. Willis did go farming, at Mangaonoho, just to the N of Hunterville, a section of his property was adjacent to the Main Trunk Rail Line.

Re the aforementioned A. E. Willis who transferred to the RNZAF, I believe he reached the rank of Wing Commander and for a period was OC Hobsonville, am sure better experts than I shall be able to expand on this? Later - have just seen that Wing Commander A.E. Willis also mentioned in the RNZAF thread on the 1946 mutiny. Later than the Shamus post blo, yes A.E. Willis certainly ex service known as "Bill."

I confirm the Photographer A.V.M. Peter Adamson, but am unsure whether he reached higher rank. Maybe I should ask him whether he has more such in his archives?

An earlier post referred to conversion of a DC 10 to a MD 10, no such model, but there was a MD 11, a new build type. Yes DC 10 for its time was an advanced aircraft with particularly well integrated auto flight modes. Nav system included a CDU for data entry and amendments to the displayed flight plan, waypoints stored at 37, a tape programmed system unlike the early 747 models that all required manual entry of waypoints and then a max of 10. Also instrument standard departures and arrivals procedures could be inserted and flown by AP or manually, the ANZ DC 10's highly spec'd largely in line with the KSSU group. KLM. Scandavanian. Swissair (?) and UTA. A feature of the spec included vertical tape engine instruments and not the 'round dials'. Very quiet in flight. Yes popular with crew, very pleasant to fly and operate. But the 747 of ANZ had superior field performance and longer legs. Incidentally, viewed a program on the stealth bomber and the nav system looked uncannily similar to the DC 10's. When ANZ sold some to American considerable mods were required to bring the model into line with the lower spec of the US carrier.

I am not sure this was Peter Bevan's prang, maybe the pilot was Mike Airey? Around this time Mike was on the way back to OH when he had a fire warning, apparently with no available extinguisher a bail out is standard practice?

Dave, unable to completely answer your query but I have a mid 1950's logbook, (RNZAF F 414) and there was a separate column for logging of "passenger" time. I do recall though, this and Instr/cloud flying (also separate columns) not to be added to the grand total. Also note I logged no pax time ever.

re transparencies conversion, - I found that cleaning with a cotton bud immersed in Isopropyl Alcohol, then having the scan, ensured many of the discolorations on the face of the slide are eradicated. The mix readily available at pharmacies.

[Is this the same Barry Gordon who is today chief pilot for Airwork and previously flew for TEAL/Air NZ? The age would seem correct. ]
Yes, unsure about the current Airwork connection though. Barry's photo frequently sighted earlier in this topic.

The line up of Venoms starting was identified as "coloured", well, Barrie did just that with at least some of his photographs back in the late 50's when at Ohakea.
