Yes - really sad deal with PAM ... many of the poorer people have nothing to start with, and then a big old storm comes along.
Just donated yesterday - hope it makes it to the right people
Lived and worked in Vanuatu back in 1991-92 with the airline - good times & good people, my heart goes out to them.
Believe NZ should send a lot more help up there than they have - get a couple of choppers up there asap - so that aid can be taken directly to the outlying islands... or it will sit & rot on the airfield in Vila.
Cheers Hvd1041

Welcome Gianmaria - Benvenuto I'm sure many of the Kiwis on here will welcome you and some photos of the Italian aviation scene ... some photos of the Trento Caproni Museum or Malpensa Volandia Museums would be neat perhaps. Grazie John PS - live over in Laveno-Mombello on Lago Maggiore for much of the year - so at least two members now in Italy

Yes - Radome is the same - I should know, as designed it back in 1997 / 98. Aim was to keep the bottom lip out of the radar FOV ... yet make it overall short enough not to contact the deck in a heavy (heavy) landing... the non-aerodynamic shape was something we never liked - but the aero guys said it produced surprising little drag.

Yes - Congratulations Dave for such a great forum ... my favorite posts are 'old' photos of NZ aviation - old Harvards, P-40s, shots during the war etc ...and the stories & history that go with them:)
You do a great job Dave - keep it up.
Cheers John.

Across the road from the main Lufthansa hangars, here on Villamore Air Force Base, is the Philippine Air Force Museum - most displays outside - but some, such as the P-51, inside. Thought a few photos might be of interest. Cheers Hvd1041 We're working here for a while ...but no signs ( yet ) of the old NATTS Friendships or any interesting old bits stored away in old hangars , I've checked

Yes got to agree with Baron here, I'd say pull back - go refuel the ship, load up a few CRV7s and an AGM65 or two for the Seasprite - give the crews a couple of days on the range to practice.... meanwhile T-up a P3 or two ( who can operate at these distances) and they can also carry rockets or even 500lb high drag MK82s ..... and then give the politicans a couple of options, including a bit of live firing.
I think most kiwis would be happy enough for their Defence dollar to be spent on a bit of live firing practice

Here is DragonflyDH90 and myself up at Lake Rotoiti ( Lake Station ) when Ryan and Bill Reid flew the Anson over the Annual Classic Boats gathering - great fun day - but sun made it hard to judge heights, but am sure we were at the required minimum ( or higher ! ). Merry Christmas everyone. Cheers Hvd1041

Sad to see John Claydon's passing. A nice person and a wonderful RNZAF history. John was a family friend - a fishing, hunting and flying buddy of my dad - and I remember as a kid being super impressed with his stories. He enlisted back in about 1936 ( with another interesting fellow - Jack Hardy from Blenheim ) and served as an airman at Wigram including a stint 'picking up rocks' at Birdlings Flat for his ( incorrect as it turned out ) involvement in a fatal crash. He subsequently became a pilot and served on Corsairs in the Pacific ( no kills he said, but lots of Japs bombed ) and then in J Force in Japan post war, also on Corsairs. He was also the senior pilot on the 1957 Trans Antartic Crossing and served in the RNZAF up thru 1965 I believe. A great hunter, fisherman and mountain climber as well.
Some photos I found on the internet.
That's John next to Ed Hillary. John in flying overalls.

Hi Baz
No, Mike is at Reno watching the Races which are on this past week.
One question I had was does anyone have any wartime photos of NZ3119 for the guys in Batavia ? This is the ex John Chambers / Subritzky machine that was sold overseas a couple of years back but had an engine failure soon after being returned to flight in Ohio. It's now being rebuilt with every effort made to make it as original as possible - and some really stunning work. Should be at Oshkosh next year with some luck.
Any 3119 photos out there ?
Cheers Hvd1041

Yes a weird one for sure. Working on 777s ever since they came in to Serivce, been type rated on them for 18 years now ....and they are a reliable straight forward machine. Got to think however that with transponders & ACARS being turned off, and the subsequent flight routing, that most of this is deliberate, and they didn't want to be found... so a fair old task ahead of them for sure.
Cheers Hvd1041
