Complete balls up by someone in a recruiting agency or within Defence itself to employ this guy without checking his credentials. there have been several CV cheats expose within the NZ Public Service eg. Immigration in recent years surely for people to do some checking up on their senior appointments. But nope.

Baz - first purchaser of a Skyhawk....one of Don's many kits from his garage lol ;D Back to the earthquake theme. A lot of historic buildings are being demolished in the Manchester Street area in the ChCh CBD. In Beagle's photo's above I recognise the building in the Sydenham area with Ascot TV housed on the ground floor, just around the corner from where I used to work. An interesting site for a graphic on all the earthquake data and aftershocks is this one: www.christchurchquakemap.co.nz/

Damage at University of Canterbury. I often frequent the library in between lectures around lunchtime. If the quake had happened then it would have been a bloodbath in that building, 10 floors swarming with people. www.canterbury.ac.nz/recovery/photos/

Great to hear you are ok Beagle. That aftershock about 07:50 this morning was scary. Only 5.1 on the Richter scale but quite shallow. Only 5 minutes of cleaning up this time and power only off for about 25 minutes here in the suburb of Riccarton. I was going to go and catch a movie at Westfields Riccarton Mall just up the road but the aftershocks have put paid to those plans....A mate is down for a funeral from Wellington, so plan on catching up with him tomorrow. Life is too short not to make the most of opportunities to catch up with friends and family at times like these.

The Air Force Museum has a notice presently on its website stating that they are closed presently while they await a building assessment.

Here's hoping the damage to those aircraft at the Museum are not significant. Most recent reports here are that there is cracking in the Christ Church Cathedral after last night's aftershocks (there were a couple of very big alarming ones) and that 2 historic buildings in Manchester Street will be completely demolished. Both buildings I believe were built in the late 1800s. The aftershocks are scary, especially at night and are a reminder that we are not out of the woods yet as they have been the cause of further damage. The response of local and national authorities has been second to none. Thanks to all outside of the Canterbury area for their supportive comments, much appreciated!!

As a local Christchurch resident I'd have to say that I'm very impressed with the speed with which services such as power and water have been restored in the majority of the city. Also the rail line shown near Rolleston all buckled has been repaired as of yesterday. Great work by all concerned. It seems that some ignorant folk outside of Christchurch are complaining about the saturation media coverage and hype about the earthquake. You don't get many opportunities to see what a really big earthquake can do to a major NZ city from the comfort of your own home. It could happen to YOU tomorrow. Are YOU prepared??? That would be my message and thing to learn from this event both as a Cantabrian and NZer.

The Christ Church and catholic cathedral have fared very well thanks to the City Council undertaking earthquake strengthening work on these buildings 10 years or so ago.

Engineers are going to be in demand. All public buildings closed apparently until they have been checked and declared safe by engineers, also private business are obliged to do the same if you believe what was reported on the news. I would imagine the City Council would check the Road Tunnel as part of the inspection process which has been ongoing today in the city in relation to buildings. There is saturation coverage on this but it is very informative, especially for locals.

I understand the NZ Government will wait until the 22 September deadline has rolled over and will then terminate the "Heads of Agreement" contract they have with TAS, finally ending this sorry saga. (sigh) Should have stuck with the F16 deal....told you so you polly wankers.

Skyhawk buyer goes AWOL I have to say though he has made two NZ governments look like mugs. I would argue that that is not really that difficult to do especially with the previous mob!!

The Hawk was the best performer and most suitable for the role. The Macchi was a lot cheaper for a very similar cabability. The rest is history! Typical NZ government. Their 'best' option when choosing procurement for the Air Force is always the cheapest option, not the best. Especially as far as the past 30 years or so goes....
