I've just got in some essential supplies. 2 cases of Sauvignon Blanc and a bottle of rum for when they run out.

aircraftclocks. We do have Pegasus Manuals as they are virtually the same engine as in the Vildebeest and Vincent.

An article by Sir Michael Cullen in this morning's NZ Herald, says, 'We are about to begin to move to the next phase where the material will become part of a period of public discussion which will then provide the material for our report to ministers. What the panel hopes is that all New Zealanders will feel able to participate in this discussion and will be confident that their views will be listened to carefully and taken account of in the panels final report.' Listened to carefully? I wonder.

I went to the Government website but found nothing relating to making a submission. One of the Political Party's says, that they are not yet open for public submissions. Will post something when I hear they are.

At the moment the New Zealand Constitution, and I am told we do have one, is under review. The powers that be seem to want to change it and this has brought forward a number or articles in newspapers both for and against. Whatever our individual beliefs are, I believe that a constitution should be;- A list of rights of citizens, a list of responsibilities of Government to these citizens, and a bill limiting the power of Governments. Under the heading of responsibilities of Government I believe that defence of the country is high on this list. At the moment, without an Air Force strike wing we as a country are virtually defenceless. Perhaps we should be promoting this need now, before the review is completed and set in stone. I suspect that this review will become more controversial as detail comes out. Watch this space.

Have just been told that the Dick Smith buried in Fiji was a different guy who was famous for sailing and built the Musket Cove Resort and also the Malolo Lailai airfield. You learn something new every day.

Landed on 05 at Auckland yesterday and could only see the 767 painted white on the south side of the airport. It had 'fire trainer' painted in black letters on it. No other fire training aircraft visible.

The Dick Smith of the Dick Smith electronics store chain is dead and buried on Malolo Lailai island in Fiji, so I was told in Fiji last year. Was I wrongly informed?

Yes, thomarse you are right. Have just dug out my old AIP from the seventies and note that, Haast and Franz Josef both had metalled runways. No doubt their were quite a few more.

So was Kaitaia. All 3 runways were stabilised metal. I remember doing a landing there and hearing some of the small gravel flying up and hitting the underside of the wing. Not good for the paint. If my memory serves me correctly, i think Hokitika and Kaitaia were the only two in NZ that had this type of runway.

Don't think it was the case that the wings were interchangeable Dave, as the upper wings had Hadley-Page slats and the lower did not. Also the lower wings had re-enforcing to take the bomb racks which took a considerable bomb load.

I've changed back to the old one too. Why do they want to alter a system that has worked for so well for so long?
