I have a Canon 8400F scanner. One of the best Canon A4 scanners, about $350 and it scans prints beautifully. It is however not so good on negatives, so I prefer prints to scan. I enquired recently with PCL in Auckland about them scanning the negs and making prints for me. They told me that their scanner cost $250,000 and their is no way a $350 scanner could compare. So I will try it out and see what the result is. Will let you know.

Read your comments Dave on seeing a Vildebeest/Vincent fly. Can't help you with a real one, but maybe the next best thing. I have somewhere an old standard 8 movie film of Vildes with engines running on the ground and also flying. Must get it converted to DVD and then you can see it.

If it helps, when I am sizeing a photo for the Forum, I go to image size in photoshop and size to 800 pixels wide, you can actually see the size it will reproduce at by using the magnifying glass and bringing it up to 100%.

Can't help you on this one Dave. I interviewed Andy Chandler many years ago when he had the garage on the North Shore. He never made mention of Venturas but I suppose thats about right, the main part of the disscussion was Hawker Hinds.

Wow, how time flys. 50 years, seems hard to believe but I suppose thats right. I remember my first lesson in the Airtourer, ZK CFJ with instructor Mike Foster back in the early 1960s so thats over 40 years ago. Must be getting old.

Not sure which ship but I always thought the gun turret displayed at the steel scrap-yard in Neilsen St, Te Papapa, Auckland, was off the Achilles. Does anyone know the origin of this turret.

An AESL Airtourer ZK-CWA is for sale on Trademe for $45000. Looks quite spectacular in its bright green colour. Does anyone have any photos of this one in previous colour schemes.

No, you did not dream it. It actually happened. My recollection of it was that the co-pilot or maybe the captain intended to raise the flaps on roll-out with the intention to kill some of the lift and make the brakes more effective. He pulled the undercarriage up lever by mistake and as the speed had not dropped below the speed needed for the U/C to be completely locked down, the undercarriage retracted.

Hi Pool Guy. The oldest Fletchers I know of are ZK-BYC owned by Don Subritzky at Dairy Flat. This one is still on the Civil Aviation Register. And ZK-BOF owned by David Chambers in the Waitakeres. Dont know if this one is on the Register or not.

Dont know what the clamp is off although I have one myself, the other part however is part of the universal bomb rack. It has, but not in your case, a small brass part on the end that sits on the bomb and holds it in position. Will have to take a photo of one of the racks and post it so you can see.

Also note that the Vincent is missing the stainless steel exhaust collector ring. Surprisingly we have not found one although their were plenty around. All vildebeest and vincent had them and also the Baffins, and Walrus. Anyone who knows of one anywhere we would like to hear.

I can't confirm this, but I understand that Bill Willis was the test pilot at Hobsonville when the first P40s arrived and that he test flew them all. I interviewed him many years ago but I was only interested in Hinds then and did not get a copy of his logbook. He lived in Taupo then and may possibly still be there although the chances of that are slim today.
