Great memories of a flight onto the Tasman in a C185. Saw a Porter get stuck in a snow drift too.

Missed these in Hobart. Hope they haven't got caught up in the tragically fatal helicopter crash last night.

Such a vast country there is huge untapped potential for many aircraft remains. Like Russia and the North West African coast it would be very difficult to access with enormous ground to cover. Hopefully one day there may be new discoveries made. P40D in a yert?

Sad they are left to rot. Makes you wonder what else is hidden away there.

Sitting on my deck yesterday morning in beautiful Springtime Tasmania, listening to the latest WONZ podcast and I heard a very familiar sound. There is very little aviation activity over my part of the world so I was suprised to see NZ1099 banking low overhead. Beautiful sound and sight. She looks great in all over trainer yellow, very different to the photo above. Even my non aviation Wife came outside and asked 'was that a Harvard?'

Very, very lucky. Is it just me or has there been a larger amount of classic / warbird aircraft involved in accidents this year. If so, why? Pilot experience on types, increased operations, etc.

Ours were more than likely used as fire training aids. One each sounds good then they could attend each others airshows.

He's going to cut that PV2 up for scrap if there's no buyer. Should be laws against these atrocities! Crowdfunding anyone?

Oh and the Vengeance. This is the aircraft I would most like to see back in the sky and I truly hope it will stay in NZ. A seriously maligned design that has been blighted by historians. Probably the most effective and accurate dive bomber or the war - when used properly. Not to mention tough.

With a new government you'll be lucky to have a couple of drones and a boxkite! Agree with the Ventura. I was lucky enough to be able to see the RAAF Ventura flying before it was grounded. It flew to Tasmania and I got a personal tour when I was a young boy. Spent hours looking over it and talking to the pilots. It was open for inspection but only half a dozen people came to look, mostly ex servicemen and me. First ever warbird introducton.

I'll be back over there when it flies, especially if it teams up with a Mossie. Imagine a Classic Fighters formation of twins in a few years - Sea Hornet, Mossie, Anson, Catalina, C47, C45, Devon and who knows what else? (Hudson / Ventura)

You could fit a Yak on the wing of each Fury and still have room to spare. Ditto on the four ship Fury. Given Full Noise is almost stock that makes the race more remarkable.

Seriously amazing achievement. Unlimited Gold in their first go. Big thanks to Dave and Zac for the footage and screenshots. Hopefully they will now get some recognition and home celebration for the achievements.

That is brilliant news. I can't believe the media aren't picking up the story. If it were the Yanks they'd have made a mini series out of it by now (World's Fastest Kiwi / Yak). Looking at the line up for the Gold Race it's the whose who of aircraft racing - like a Superband for pilots. Good luck to the team. Can't wait to hear the result.
