Yes, sadly - it's Tom I haven't seen him for years but noted that he was on the Wellington AHSNZ circulation list. I've always been surprised that (as far as I know) his massive collection of photos have never appeared anywhere. IIRC his particular interest was Ag Aviation, Ray - like one or two others around here MACNAB, Thomas Leith Murray: On 12 January 2023 peacefully at Wellington Hospital, in his 75th year. Loved brother of Jean, and Jessie & John. Loved Uncle of Craig & Jisun, Cassandra & Brenton, Ian, Devorah & Jake, and great-Uncle of Samuel and Alice; William, Hayden and Ariel. A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held in the Wesley Centre, cnr Benzie Avenue and Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, on Wednesday, 18 January 2023 at 1.00pm, followed by private cremation. Message to "The Macnab Family" may be left on Tom's tribute page at www.tributes.co.nz

An indescribable tragedy and something that just should not happen. The loss of life is an absolute tragedy along with the loss of a precious aircraft. I feel a very careful revisitation of airshow ops and procedures will ensue. Keep ‘em flying . Keep ‘em safe ! I couldn't have expressed my thoughts better Aeromedia

Be interesting to see how many of them survived the war Marty. I agree and am interested that there's not a single name I recognise in there

Reginald William Wellington, Flight Sergeant, NZC439290, No. 17 Squadron RNZAF and No. 22 Squadron RNZAF (Two tours). Born 3/4/1925, Stratford, Taranaki. Died Rotorua 3/11/2022, aged 97. Sorry if mentioned in the podcast but was Reg the same Reg Wellington who owned the Chrislea Ace ASI from 1975 to 1978?

Are you familiar with any of the described "incidents" angelsonefive? I'm certainly not.
I'm trying to decide whether I'm interested enough to email the Journo who wrote this...

Is it possible he wrote under a pseudonym and was known to everyone in aviation by a different name? That's possible Dave, but I'm mystified as much as anything by the tall tales of building aircraft from bits and having them fall apart in the air-and Chinese topdressing aircraft! As madmax said, someone on here would know!

Given that Peter Harker flew, it appears, on the South Island's west coast and it is claimed was involved in venison recovery and aerial top dressing and is reputed to have crashes 3 aircraft, I am surprised that not one of this forums 7000 members, a significant proportion of whom have been in, or are actively seeking involved with aviation, have revealed they knew him. I'm with mm on this one. I thought I had a reasonable knowledge of who the meat hunters were and their antics, but the aircraft from China, the reputed accidents, the aircraft "he built himself" and the "lost his licence for life" are all news to me. It would seem they're news to Google as well Where's baronbeeza? It's in his patch

I have three of the four volumes published by Roll Back The Years and don't recall anything on DC3. I will check You might have misunderstood my comment 30sqnatc. I'm not aware of any publication that refers to the Dak at Taumarunui; just saying that since they have covered almost every aspect of Taumarunui history (particularly machinery, sawmilling, transport etc) I'd be surprised if they haven't covered aviation. As far as I know the "Roll Back the Years" guru is a bloke named Ron Cooke

Taumarunui has as good or better a grip on its history than any other town in NZ that I know of. I think the catalyst is this group: www.rollbacktheyears.co.nz/. If they don't know....

So I believe too. Either he or his wife (or both) ran the Tavistock Hotel at some stage. Both passed away in early 1986
