Wow! Four FUs in the line at Bridge Pa.
Now there are none! A real shame for the enthusiast.
BTW, had Bob Fleming sold out to Helicopters Hawke's Bay as long as 15 years ago? My how time flies.

I travel mainly for business.
If I've got to be in Auckland at 10.00, I've got to be there at 10.00, not 11.00 or 12.30 or tomorrow.
I'll be on Air NZ. Sure it'll cost, but I'll be there and guess what? The fare I pay might be a fairer indication of the true cost of operating the service.
They cram 180 bums into an aircraft at those fares (complete with every second passenger dragging a near full-size suitcase aboard to save a lousy ten bucks) and it still doesn't pay?
Apparently not.

Just found another snippet on CRA.
On page 266 of John King's "NZ Aviation Tragedies" there is a good photo of her inverted in a gully, basically intact except that the fuselage is severed just ahead of the tail.
The caption reads "Without pilot Neil Moore on board, this topressing Callair ZK - CRA moved off down the airstrip and crashed into a stream at Orari Gorge, South Canterbury in September 1970"
Except that the date was 30 September 1977, this would appear to correctly describe the demise of CRA

Didn't it used to operate out of the river/estuary at Kaiapoi?
I seem to recall the late Keith Wakeman had something to do with it. Also recall seeing her taking off from the deck of a truck at Christchurch Airport - perhaps after the floats were fitted initially.

I don't think Belk Road was ever used for anything other than gliding was it?

For the life of me I can't work out why the Agwagon faded from the scene as it did, especially the A188B.
Certainly a classic machine, outstanding as a sprayer. Only flew one once; will never forget it - as a "first up" experience, only my one flight in a Harvard comes within a bull's roar.

My letters from Tim Frederikson don't help much.
On 4 June 1980 he said "CRI is at Central Aviation at Roxburgh with no engine. There's a spare set of wings at Timaru and a prop at Rangiora. It's mine if I want it according to Les Davidson, but I need to get in there before the rascals from Ferrymead.....!"
On 20 December 1981 he said "I've ended up with Pawnees BYY and CND. The rest went to a film company who are breaking them up, CRI was first to go"
Can anyone shed any light on the film company bit? Or what happened to BYY and CND? I guess they were amongst his bits and pieces at Woodend.
Tim ceased ag flying about 1984 I think, and died suddenly in 1995.

Back to Dave's original theme, no, I don't like it and am not ready for it in my NZ
The sight of them swaggering around our airports Glock-on-belt gives me the s**ts to be frank, largely because it seems that it comes with a certain body language which their training has unfortunately not addressed adequately.

Dakman, that jogged my memory. There were actually two of 'em in Wanganui over Christmas - New Year 1972/73. They were in different states of disrepair and were around the corner from WAW out of sight up a sort of a valley in the sandhills.
I'm positive the other one was CRA and I was surprised to read later that it was airworthy again as it didn't look like it ever would be when I saw it.
I guess CRC got there through the Wanganui take-over of Rangitikei, but can't explain CRA being there.

I'm away from home at the moment but when I get back I'll dig out some old letters from a great mate the late Tim Frederikson.
I know there's quite a bit of reference in them to the South Island Callairs in their last years.

No doubt about Peter, you're the master!
Two things about that photo - it doesn't actually look that bad! Better than I expected, and better than the IO720 IMHO.
Secondly, the foreground reminds me of an old joke - "Never mind , you've still got the box it came in". Looks like it's still plastic-shrouded?
Despite spending my life looking skywards, I never ever got to watch one of them flying despite at least 3 living just over the hill in the Wairarapa. Saw one briefly air-to-air south of Timaru in early 1968, I guess either CRI or J.
