Barnetts Road maybe? I wonder if it has been renamed?
Quite close to SH1 from memory.
White Pages only brings up 15 entries for Gluyas in the South Island, and none are near there.

.....or "a lot of shit" which my post ain't!
;D
My Marton Oxford is not to be confused with all the bits that are/were buried in the river bank in town (although it may have been part of the same lot originally), Tutaenui is a wee way out of town.

Just to help push this thread along a bit, here's two snippets that aren't rumour; however, I don't know all the details. They are from my formative years, and I'd be very interested to know if the a/c involved simply rotted away or were snapped up by someone. Apologies in advance if these subjects have been done to death in the past.
1. Oxfords near Marton:
In the late 60s I went to stay a weekend with a friend in Marton. Knowing my interest, he took me to see an Oxford or Oxfords at the property of a Mr Galpin at Tutaenui - as an aside, I think that was the property where the Agwagon COP and "Doc" Sait met their fate. Although we only looked from the road, one a/c was sitting on its main undercarriage and appeared complete except for outer wings.
2. Hudsons/Venturas (?) at Morven near Waimate:
According to the blue-covered diary, on 17 Feb 1968 (42 years - seems like yesterday) a mate and I flew Wellington - Waimate return in Victa CLF. We were both hour-building at the time, and the reason for Waimate on that occasion was that a former schoolmate worked on a farm at Morven. This propery was owned by a Mr Gluyas, and under a belt of pine trees was a big collection of a/c remains which I believe was either Hudson or Ventura. He had bought them a long time previously mainly for the undercarriage for farm trailers but I don't think he had in fact used it. Mr Gluyas is no longer in the phone book at that address, and a couple of years ago I did a "drive-by" to see if I could recognise the farm, but couldn't. Station Road or similar comes to mind.
Can anyone fill me in on the subsequent life of these?

Hi all.
I've asked this before without success so..............
Does anyone have any info on Allan Wooller? He was a frequent AHSNZ correspondent in the early to mid 60s (along with myself, agavwhiz, China Pilot and no doubt a few more) and from memory came from Pahiatua. The last of him I've received was his owning a Bolkow up until 1984.
I believe Allan may have/have had an extensive collection of photos, mainly ag aircraft, as I recently bought a C185 shot (CHK) off TradeMe and on the back is "AW Dannevirke" which I suspect means him.
Any clues folks?

Dave
I'm well through the book and intrigued by Don's remarkable history.
Is Don still in Masterton? I can't find him in the phone book.
Cheers

Thanks Dakman, great shot of the bedraggled CRC; just as I remember her at that time.
I'm positive another was with her up that gully in the sandhills (CRA?) - can anyone confirm?
As per my reply #39, I'm very surprised she ever made it back to airworthiness from that state. Anyone know where/when she was refurbished? I'd suspect Timaru; it seems to have been a haven for Callairs.

Thanks guys
BHJ, never fear, I've spotted that! You can still see "Southern Scenic Air Services" on the boom faintly.
James, thanks, won't have much trouble tracking that, my son knows Pondsy well.
Waimo, thanks - how could I follow that up? Do you remember my mate Tim Fred?
Cheers all

I'm really keen to get my hands on a tractor-mounted loader like that to restore (easier to keep legal than a truck).
Anyone know where one is that might be for sale?

On the way to AC/DC?
Personally, I'd prefer the sound of EML

I'm always the last to hear anything but this tickled me - heard it today from Chris Pask, noted former ag pilot and now producer of magnificent wines...
There was a young pilot called Kevin Who took off in a F111 He went off with a roar at 6.44 And crashed at a quarter to seven!
(Google can't find it so maybe.......)
Which brings up the question - I think the Aussies left two here, one in the Waitemata and one near/at Ohakea. Correct?

Terrible subject, but I think there were 10 fatalities in the Islander EVK on the Dart Glacier.
There was a similar number in an accident on (from memory) the neve of the Franz Josef Glacier about the same time and involving something unusual - a twin turbo-prop, Dornier?

I'd never heard of the book but (again, thanks to an earlier post) am all fired up to learn more of the history of floatplanes on Lake Taupo so.........

Which brings up a question in my mind.....
When did the first double-ended loaders appear? Down this way they were still front-enders (as in trucks) into the early 60s.

CFI of the first Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School at Matamata January 1967 and possibly subsequent ones.
Met him a number of times later at various social occasions at PP whilst he was with CAA or one of its predecessors. Humour personified!
He was at one of the Walsh reunions - 25th maybe.

I have a photo of DQI taken at Molesworth in 1982 by my mate the late Tim Frederikson when he was flying it, and it's in that same scheme, so maybe......
