The original of the photograph of the crashed Gloria Lyons belongs to me, i'll have to check the photo grouping to see if it's named or if there are any others related to NZ3148 in the album.

One of my pilot veterans bought back from the islands a bunch of bananas & an American M-1 rifle he'd bought in Guadalcanal. It's amazing what you can tuck into the small corners of an aircraft!!

I have available a super rare period framed Mention in Despatches certificate LG dated 14 Jan 1944 to a RNZAF pilot who was killed in action 3 Jan 1944 along with his entire crew while on Ops to Berlin as a Lancaster pilot with 83 (PFF) Sqd.
The pilot was NZ40776 Flt/Lt L W Munro who had previously completed a tour with 103 Sqd in 1941.
The frame is in excellent order though the hanging hooks have been removed, there are photocopies lightly glued to the rear that have been copied from the excellent reference publications BC Losses 1944 by Chorley & By Such Deeds by Hanson, these can be removed if necessary.
PM with any questions or photo requests, i'm looking for offers on this. Kerry.

Craig O'Dwyer now lives & works in London, in fact the same road i work in myself!! He owns a very successful cafe & vintage scooter business, rusty Lambrettas & strong coffee are all the vogue at the moment.

Another member of 488's Singapore ground crew to make it to 14 Sqd (though only after a tour with 15 Sqd)was flight mechanic / engine fitter NZ392003 Leo Edward Arden. I have his diaries from 1939 to his discharge in 1945 and they make interesting reading, other accounts i've read don't make it clear just how much pressure the RNZAF and allies were under by the Japs.

The buttons fitted with split rings were for the KD summer tunic.
Nothing wrong with nylon ribbons but if you want to keep the authentic feel to the tunic wartime (or immediate post war) period ribbons should really be used. As previously stated original period ribbon can be found on internet sales sites.
And yes, just on the top of the pocket!!

What a great present, good luck on the project.
Ribbon bars are easy to make as they were usually mounted on stiff card or something similar, just make sure you use original ribbon and not the modern nylon substitute currently being used by medal mounters.

He was in our shop the week before he died chirpy as a box of birds, a lovely bloke who's TV shows kept me entertained through the 1970's.
RIP Mr Wicker.
