Mostly local chit chat, humour and "in" jokes about resident RNZAF personalities, the jokes wouldn't mean a lot to those who didn't know them. The only constant thread seems to be the "Norfolk Story" which tells the history of Norfolk Island from convict times. For content Low Blower, Octopus 8 and Corsair Courier are miles better but then again these were forward base newspapers.

I have a few copies of the WWII RNZAF produced foolscap sized magazine DUFFY'S GEN for trade as i have duplicates.
The 4 issues i have for trade are; No III 22nd December 1944 No IV 19th January 1945 No V 24th February 1945 No VI 5th June 1945 All have been stored flat, all with original staples, all complete with no missing pages and no writing to the pages. The 22nd Dec 44 dated issue has a little silver fish damage to the cover other than that i would grade excellent.
The issues i have are; No II, III, IV, V, VI. If anyone has the missing issues & would like a trade please let me know!!
Thanks in advance, Kerry.
PS. Is anyone holding copies of the Green Island produced CORAL DUST ?? I'd love to see a copy!!

The NZ airman "HRT Humphries" mentioned in the list praxis provided would in fact be Harold Roschill Thomas HUGHES. During his service from 1915 until his transfer to the unemployed list in 1919 he served with the RNAS, RFC and RAF. Hughes served operationally as a DH-9 pilot with 107 Sqd and as such flew over Le Quesnoy while NZ troops including his brother assaulted the town. Hughes returned to NZ on the SS Bremen in 1919 becoming a founding member of the New Zealand Air Force (Territorial) in 1923 resigning in 1926. In 1973 he was president of the NZ 1914-1918 Airmen's Association before passing away in 1975.
If anyone has any further information on Hughes or photographs i'd be interested in hearing from them. Kerry.

It sounds to me that Paul (ngatimozart) should be writing the proposed book & not Brian Cull!!

You could add to the list NZ412867 Alfred Victor Gordon Cridge, Sgt air gunner with 215 Sqd shot down 3rd march 1943. Baled out landing heavily injuring his leg he was sheltered by a forced labour French farm worker before setting out & almost immediately captured by a Luftwaffe FLAK officer. From there he was handed over to local German forces subsequently disappearing. In spite of 2 post war investigations the perpetrators of his murder were never found & to this day his burial site remains unknown, Cridge is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial.

Could any of the forum members tell me if US supplied P-40 and Corsair aircraft were operated with US radio & oxygen equipment or was it of British (or Aust/NZ) origin while in RNZAF service?? Thanks in advance, Kerry.

Building bush huts, skate boards & chopper cycles, we were ape hangar crazy man!! Breaking arms & grazing knees Takapuna Tudor on a Sunday with all the other kids full of chocolate & sugar drinks, did anyone ever watch the films?? Star Wars, my first McDonalds & KFC, swapping bubble gum cards with your school mates (which somehow avoided being thrown out to be sold on Ebay for fortunes last year!!) Saturday Night Fever, disco clubs & hitch hiking home from Victoria Park to Glenfield at 3am and the weirdos you meet while doing so. Giving way to punk rock which gave way to Two Tone & reggae. And into the 8T's...
Happy daze!!

Hitting the shelves of the bookshop where i work is the latest issue (Dec 2012) of Aeroplane magazine. A "Mosquito Special" it features great interviews with the main players as well prospects for the future. Keep a look out, an interesting read.

I bid on these but a pal in Belg with deeper pockets won. Nice shots, pity the aircraft isn't identified. The last photo i don't think belongs in the 75 grouping though.

Another quality post David D, when are you going to collate all this info into a book?? To answer one of your queries the airmens SD cap was certainly made in New Zealand, i have a 1930 dated example with a Hallensteins makers mark impressed into the leather liner around the crown. Mine is fitted with i assume to be an early manufactured RNZAF brass cap badge.
Looking forward to your book on RNZAF uniform, as if don't have enough to do!! Kerry.

Bit of a strange request, do any of the readers have photos of a PV-1 pilots seat?? Either period photos or perhaps taken recently from any museum examples?? Thanks in advance, Kerry.

My thoughts are that the recovery team in 1943 only partially recovered the pilots body leaving the hard to recover airframe & body parts interned within the wreck. Pleased the remains have been recovered & will now receive the burial they deserve.
