Welcome (officially) Phil. Your input already has been great and much appreciated.
Snap - I have a model collection like that, loads of unbuilt yet potentially RNZAF stuff.
Got any good photos to share from your Photog days?

All right, at Daves behest..... What's your name? Sam HallWhere are you from? Lower Hutt, WellingtonHow old are you? 29What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... Almost everything. Historic and military primarily, but interested in all aspects.Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? 'Just an enthusiast' unfortunately. Would have been RNZAF but for medical reasons. Father is ex RAF and RNZAF fireman. Brother in Law is current RNZAF. Earliest memories are of planes and airshows. Practice the dark art of airshow photography as a hobby. Also prone to hanging around viewing areas at airports. Don't have time to pursue a PPL, although I have a couple of hours under instruction in various light aircraft, including aeros in a Tiger Moth. Try not to betray my spotterishness in polite company.Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? NoAre you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) S cale, mainly 1:72, mostly WW2 and postwar military, although I have ventured as high as 1:32 occasionally (I built the revell Hunter for dad's Christmas present last year). Working on constructing a small but quality collection of RNZAF models, mainly Skyhawks. What are your favourite aviation books? Alright then, having been shown the site by my son Sam [above], I can't stay shtum can I?
What's your name?
Colin Hall
Where are you from?
Lower Hutt
How old are you?
Ancient! About 25 years older than my last F1250
What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military...
Yes.
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background?
Served in two Royal Air Forces, RAF/RNZAF, all over the world, and I once worked out I had flown in some 43 different types, and had 'hands-on' with some of them. Done aeros in both A4 and Stearman, how about them apples? Two tours in Singapore, one of which was filling an RAF post, one full tour [two and a half years] in Kenya, zillions of hours in the back of a Herc on various overseas jaunts.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?
Joined NZ Warbirds, but briefly when I reached the conclusion it was too 'Auckland " based. I'm not into Associations, though this site has distinct possibilities.
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)
No, but he is, [Sam]and his model of the Hunter FGA 9 [with which I had a direct association] is in a glass case and is an absolute stunner. He made my day when he handed it over, and he knows that so I'm not telling tales!
What are your favourite aviation books?
I'm an avid reader, so couldn't possibly list them all here. My last purchase was "Night after Night" by Max Lambert. It should be compulsory reading for all young men today.
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?
Personally, I thought Top Gun was crap, apart from the flying scenes. Tom Cruise spoiled it, and far too many shots of throttles being slammed open etc., etc.I've enjoyed all the others of course.
Do you frequent other aviation forums?
Yes, pprune, and I can comment!
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum?
Not really, although I thing the ability to post personal photos would be a huge leap forward. That is, presuming you can't do that now!

Welcome Peter.
How did you become interested in New Zealand aviation? That's interesting that it's become your main interest. I'd have thought the RNZAF was not well known in Sweden.
Great to have you here anyway Dave

Thanks Dave,
It started with an interest in the RAF but I wanted to concentrate on a smaller subject and this turned out to be RNZAF. Your airforce may not be so well known in Sweden but your country is.
One of my collegues at work is also an aviation enthusiast with Corsairs (including RNZAFs) as special interest. It´s a small world.

We have a few Corsair enthusiasts here (and at least one pilot in the members list) - you should point your colleague in this direction.
Cheers Dave

Hi everyone. After running into Dave at the Tauranga SportAvex 2006, he gave me this address and suggested I might like to have a look, and join the group, so here goes. What's your name? Mike Karsten Where are you from? Invercargill born and breed How old are you? 39 What is your main interest in aviation, Is it historic? Airlines? Military... Up until recently, I was a military enthusiast entirely. This has now changed to the home build scene, as I'm about to start my own project. Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? I first started flying lessons back in 1982, struggling to save every cent for flying lessons. In 1987, I joined the RNZAF as an Armourer, and was posted to Auckland, Wigram, Woodbourne and then back to Auckland. In 1995, I remustered to Air Ordnance (still an armourer really) as full time aircrew aboard the P3 K Orion. I left the airforce in 2000, and returned with wife and children in tow to Invercargill. I now work as a commercial pilot & B cat instructor with Southern Wings in Invercargill. I'm in the process of starting my buil;d project, a "Pegazair". a french canadian design made to get in and out of extremely short strips. www.tapanee.com/. Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? NZSAA & New Zealand Aerobatics club Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) Aren't scratch built aircraft the ultimate aircraft model ?? What are your favourite aviation books? Anything as long as theres aircraft involved. Hope to catch many of you on the boards as I get the feel of things. Mike

Welcome aboard Mike, I just had a look at the Pegazair site - cool aeroplane, has a lot in common with my own design Adventurer, which would fit somewhere between the Pegazair and Levitation. Must come down and see your machine some time! Hope you enjoyed SportAvex and didnt get too sunburned (like everyone else i know who went!)

Welcome Mike,
Great to have you here. I was so glad we bumped ino each other at the airshow. I first met Mike at Hobsonville when he was doing his senior Armourer's course and I my Safety Equipment Course at No. 1TTS. When I was posted to Wigram he was there already, and became my friendly Armourer when I had to have pyros and things checked from the survival packs. Plus the Armoury was a great place to skive to. Where are Pinetree Rankin and Geoff Pope these days Mike? Still around somewhere?
Anyway, I think you'll like it here. I'm sure we'll all be keen to watch progress reports of your Pegazair too.
Cheers mate Dave

What's your name?Sean Galbraith Where are you from?Christchurch since October 2005, previously Masterton How old are you?35 going on 16 What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military...6 months ago this would have been much easier to answer; Post WWII Military, mainly RNZAF. But recently I have getten a bit interested in modern airliners... must be a phase I am going through! Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? I have been an aviation nut in one form or another since my earliest memories... in fact I still have a book from my childhood which got me hooked; it had a cut-away view of the "new" F-4 Phantom fighter (be a Phantom Phanatic every since!) I joined the ATC back in the early 80's and started gliding shortly after, going solo and eventually doing C cert, before the lure of powered flight came calling. I got to do the RNZAF flying scholarship at Wigram in 1989, soloing in Airtourer NZ1762. Nearest I got to a career in the Air Force was passing PERSEL, then not progressing further. (I hindsight I should have taken the other careers offered...) Since then I have been mad on flight sims, to the extent of building a number of cockpits, or "Simpits" the last of which was a low fidelity A-4k (with a big thankyou to Don Simms for his help!) Moved to Christchurch to take up my dream job, building 737-800 simulators for a living, for Pacific Simulators. Sort of explains the current interest in modern airliners... Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?No. Well none yet... but now I am near Wigram.. who knows Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)I have dabbled in R/C and scale... but nothing any good. Unless you count "virtual" modelling, I have built aircraft and scenery for MS Flight Sim starting in the 80's.... Oh, and the 1:1 cockpit building... does that count as modelling? What are your favourite aviation books?"Flight of the Intruder" "The Intruders" "Final Flight" "The Red Horsemen" "The Minotaur" "Under Seige" ...All by Stephen Coonts "Bogies and Bandits, the Making of a Fighter Pilot" by Robert Gandt "Enemy Coast Ahead" by Guy Gibson What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?Top Gun.... Flight of the Intruder Air America The Dambusters 633 Squadron Battle of Britain Do you frequent other aviation forums? Not really.. browse a couple from time to time, havent found one to call home before this one Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? No, it looks pretty damn good to me ;-) SeanG
