Welcome to the forum Martin. Also Pal and Marcus above.
Martin, I saw a programme on television the other night called The Boy Who Lived Before about a five year old Scottish boy who was sure he'd had a previous life in the Isle of Barra (off the Scottish coast). They showed some 1960's film footage of a Heron landing on the beach there at Barra, which was quite spectacular as there was a few inches of water on the beach where it landed! Can't be good for the undercart!

Hi all, been lurking here for a few months, finally decided to register. What's your name?Leo Pardon Where are you from?North Shore, Auckland How old are you?19 What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military...Bit of everything really. I'm very interested in the airline industry and general aviation. Probably more into civil aviation than military. Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background?Have always been interested in aviation, possibly as a result of traveling quite a lot as a child and flying on lots of different aeroplanes. Finished high school last year with the intention of becoming a pilot. Got my PPL earlier this year, and now I'm working on my CPL which, if all goes well, I should hopefully have by mid next year. Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?Nope. Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)I used to make scale models. Haven't done for a year or so now since we moved house and I have been too lazy to get all my equipment set up again, but I think my new year's resolution might be to get back into it next year. What are your favourite aviation books? Not sure I have a favourite really, but one that stands out is Jim Hopkins' "Words on Wings" which I really enjoyed. What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?Well, of course Top Gun, but pretty much any aviation related film is likely to interest me. One I can definitely recommend is Les Chevaliers du Ciel; a French film in a similar vein to Top Gun - some amazing aerial photography which easily offsets the naturally very cheesy storyline. Do you frequent other aviation forums?Yes. Too many to list here, but I'm most active on NZFF, PPRUNE and Flightsim.com. Username is usually FlyingKiwi, but unfortunately that was already taken here! Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? From what I've seen so far it looks pretty good as it is. *** Thought it's worth mentioning here that apart from flying, my other big interest in aviation is photography, a few people here might possibly recognise my name from Airliners.net and Jetphotos.net which I upload my photos to. Hope I can be a useful contributor here!

Where are you from? Born and raised in Reporoa, A small farming Community ½ between Rotorua and Taupo on SH5, Now Live about 6km north of Sale in Victoria, Australia and have for the last 9 years
How old are you?

What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military...
Main interest is Military – RNZAF and World War 2. Although anything of Military aviation grabs my attention. Also like to keep up with Aerial Topdressing
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background?
Started enjoying the idea of flying when I was about 10 and in my mid to later teens had to opportunity to go out on many Aerial Topdressing flights, with Jet Spread from Taupo in their Cresco and the odd one in their FU24. From there I joined the RNZAF as an AEOP in 1996 (R4/96) and commenced Basic AEOP at SAN, RAAF East Sale (Australia) on 4/97AEOP. I was suspended from training after failing a typing test. Thats right, Typing. Our course had 6 AEOPUT and the Air Force only needed 4 so once it was looking like we’d all pass they had to go back to the letter of the law to chop 2 of us. Remustered to MTDRVR (Driver), and was going to try for HCM in 1999, but 717’d on 7 Nov 98 and moved to Sale, Australia to marry my wife, Who I meet while being posted there. Since then, much to my dismay, I have just been an enthusiast, although I am trying to become an Air Crewman with the helicopter company that has the RAAF Search and Rescue contract.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?
No
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)
Yes, 1/72 Scale World War 2 Aircraft and RNZAF. Have about forty made and about 100 kits waiting. Don’t get to spend anywhere the time on them I would like too, Family life ah.
What are your favourite aviation books?
Any Aircraft books, If they have colour profiles even the better. Do like the Venture Classic Warbirds series and of course the proper Osprey Aircraft of the Aces series
What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?
Can’t beat Battle Of Britain Hunters of the Sky series
Do you frequent other aviation forums?
No
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum?
It would be great to be able to post photos directly to the forum

Welcome Gareth, it's great to have you here.
Sadly the forum has not got a direct method for posting photos. But Photobucket is a great free way to do it, and it only takes a few more minutes really. I know it's a little inconvenient but the only alternative is I'd have to find a different forum format which charges money (this one is free to run, as is a Photobucket account). I'm happier paying nothing.
