F/SHCM Mervyn Keith (Merv) Baker CASC B84595 HCM RNZAF 21 January 1970 to 26 September 1989 On October 31, 2022 peacefully and surrounded by his beloved family, after a very short and unexpected illness. Flowers respectfully declined, however donations in Merv's name to the Cancer Society can be made at his service. The family wish to thank the staff of Anthony Wilding Retirement Village whose support and care was greatly appreciated. Reginald William Wellington, Flight Sergeant, NZC439290, No. 17 Squadron RNZAF and No. 22 Squadron RNZAF (Two tours). Born 3/4/1925, Stratford, Taranaki. Died Rotorua 3/11/2022, aged 97. Sorry if mentioned in the podcast but was Reg the same Reg Wellington who owned the Chrislea Ace ASI from 1975 to 1978?

Yes. Reg did own it and he donated it to Ashburton Aviation Museum, who have restored it recently.

Yes. Reg did own it and he donated it to Ashburton Aviation Museum, who have restored it recently. He actually donated it to the NZ Sport & Vintage Aviation Society at Masterton. They later passed it on to Ashburton.

I think ZK-ASI was based at Rotorua when owned by Reg. My memory is a bit hazy these days and I'm unable to access my records at present but I have an idea he bought it from Trevor Page, Page Plating Napier, but stand to be corrected on this

You are correct Madmax. Reg lived in Rotorua. And yes he bought the aircraft from Trevor, whom I also know. He is also an RNZAF veteran, and is now 103 and still going strong, and like Reg, is a top bloke.

Dearly loved Husband of the late Joan. Much loved and treasured Dad to Beryl Fishlock (Wanganui), Judy Werner (Australia), Peter Wakefield (Australia). Loved only Brother of Shirley, Dawne, the late Thelma, and Betty. Loved and respected by all of his Nieces and Nephews, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren and Friend to many. Friend's are invited to attend a celebration of Jack's long life in the Forrest Lawn Chapel, 208 Guyton Street, Wanganui on Friday 18 November 2022 at 1.30pm to be followed by a private cremation. Sad to see Jack "Wakey" Wakefield has died. He was a great guy, and was No. 75 Squadron's last aircrew member from the Vickers Wellington era, I believe.
