Another message via Norm Empson; paraphasing the message:
Harvey 'Ham' Hammersley died yesterday at Princess Margaret Hospital Christchurch, aged 88. Ham had lived for many years in Darfield with his Wife, known as Bub. An ex-signaller, Ham apparently walked the whole of NZ with a hand-pushed cart raising money for the proposed Wigram Museum in the 1980's. Someone may want to expand on that?

Have just learned from Noel Crump, that his Brother in law, Harvey Hammersley died yesterday at Princess Margaret Hospital Christchurch, Ham was 88. Ham had lived for many years in Darfield with his Wife, known as Bub. Regards EG
Many of you will remember Harvey from his days as a signaller on 41 and 40 Sqns. As you may know his Service began in WW2 when he served as a radio opr on bomber squadrons. Post his RNZAF retirement he undertook many activities including acting as an RNZAF Museum guide. He will be sadly missed.

Thanks Errol, well Hinuera is just out of Cambridge, on the road to Matamata, so it seems that Peter De Renzy really should be on my website as he lived pretty close to the district edge as a kid and he died here in town.

Possibly. I looked in the phone directory and found there are only four De Renzy listings, one being P. De Renzy of Matamata. In the death notice Matamata is mentioned, and I figure that perhaps he's probably a Matamata man who happened to come to Cambridge for specialist care in his last days, as a lot of peopel from Matamata seem to coem here for the resthome care.

That is really very sad to hear that Skip Watson has passed away. I had the priviledge of meeting him last year and found him to be a very interesting and nice gentleman, who had numerous excellent stories of combat in P-40's and Corsairs. My condolences to Shorty, I recall there was a family connection there.
