Sad to see two of the great clock winders have passed on to the sky watch.
Bill David was my first boss when I started at Wigram way back in '66. A gentle man, but a great boss.

Norm was an inaugral member of No. 3 (General Reconnaissance) Squadron when it first formed in April 1941, with Blackburn Baffins. He was a flight mechanic and worked on Baffins and Vincents. He did his senior course and then rejoined the squadron as a Fitter IIE, and went with them when they deployed to the Pacific with their Hudsons.
Following a tour with 3GR at Santo and Guadalcanal, he returned home and his best mate Jim Ross (also a Fitter IIE) and himself retrained as Flight Engineers. They joined the Catalinas, Norm becoming a crew member in Sid Loader's crew in No. 5 (FB) Squadron.
Norm moved to Cambridge just after the war. His mate Jim Ross was from Cambridge and together they established their own motor garage, Ross Todd Motors. This was one of the very prominent businesses in Cambridge for many decades and continued after Jim was killed in a car crash in the 1960's. In the 2000's the business was taken over by another company but it is still there doing the same things.
Norm was also the proud father of Sir Mark Todd, the olympian from Cambridge.
RIP Norm, I always enjoyed our chats.

Alex Sanson lived not far from me on Mahurangi East Road between Algies Bay and Martins Bay. He retired there after leaving his farm at South Kaipara Heads. I used to see quite a bit of him, but not much over the last couple of years. Sad to see him go. His brother Sam was a client of mine at South Head.
