This is from Glen Turner of the No. 75 Squadron Association:
LAST POST: F/SGT Phillip Baden BAKER, NZ416976, AirGunner, 75(NZ)Sqn RAF. Sadly I have been advised that Phil died yesterday after a fall at his home in Palmerston North. He was 92, and an active Assn member, attended our local reunions and also several out of our area in the past few years. Phil was the MUG of D.P. Leadley's crew, Lancaster's, at Mepal Oct44 to Feb45. He was very proud of being in the crew of a Lancaster and had a painting of his aircraft done by our Assn resident artist. Clear skies Phil, you were an inspiration as a humble and respected airman.

He became a PoW for about six weeks towards the end of the war when he was shot down on the night of 14/15 Mar 45. Cuttance was on his second tour, having flown 350 hours on ops. His Fortress was engaged on a bomber support (electronic counter-measures) sortie when intercepted by a German nightfighter crew who had already shot down eight Lancasters during their sortie, the Fortress was their ninth and last of the sortie, an amazing achievement. All 10 crew survived, including William John Lovell-Smith and Russel Owen Douglas, also both of the RNZAF.
