Sad news indeed. He was kind enough to give me a copy of Earlybird when I interviewed him. An incredible history, and not long celebrated a major anniversary with Esther (a lovely woman). Blue skies, Phil.

Jack Humphries was the first pilot I loaded for in 1960 when he was flying AZL along with Jack Priest. He was one of the people responsible for changing items in the cockpit for one pilot operation. The power settings used on all the DC3 topdressers were initially put in operation by Jack. He left early in 1961 to fly for SPANZ and came back to fly AZL again in 1964 at the time I started full time driving. He shared the aircraft for a while with Gerry Oman and when Gerry left he continued flying AZL until Bill Peterson took over in 1964. I loaded for Jack for that period. We had a lot of good times together. He left in 1964 to fly for TEAL. He was a great pilot on the DC3. He could make it talk. During that period of 1962-64 he trained George Allen who carried on with Airland and then Fieldair. He also gave Bob Allen his DC3 rating.
