English-born Stanley Warrington enlisted in the RNZAF in early March 1941, and commenced training as a pilot at 4 EFTS Whenuapai a month later. This did not work out, so he was remustered to Air Observer and subsequently sailed for Canada per the mighty MARIPOSA that October. On completion of his advanced training he returned to NZ in June 1942 with his new commission, and served with 3 Sqdn at Whenuapai (Hudsons), then completed a course at New Plymouth from November that year. He reported to 2 Sqdn at Nelson in January 1943 where he crewed up with F/O J S Tarrant. This crew became foundation members of the Pacific Ferry in May 1943, and delivered approx. eight new PV-1 Venturas to New Zealand up till June 1944. He then remained with 40 Squadron at Whenuapai, and completed his RNZAF service in September 1945 on routine transport duties between NZ and the Pacific islands. He subsequently remained on the Reserve for a number of years. David D
