Citation Distinguished Flying Cross (15 Sep 1942): [185 Sqn RAF (Spitfire)] This officer has displayed great courage and outstanding keenness. His example at all times, especially when the odds were great, has been of the best. He has destroyed four, probably destroyed two, and damaged seven hostile aircraft. During the Battle of Britain flew with 234 and 603 Sqns RAF (both Spitfire) and 421 Flt RAF (Hurricane). Later flew from Malta. Bob flew Halifax bombers out of Egypt and India. Best known for topdressing out of Gisborne and Napier; Tiger Moth, Loadstar and DC3. Also Air Central and Fiji Airways Suva, before retiring in Eumundi/ Cooroy area QLD.
Dearly loved husband of Eileen. Much loved dad to Mark, Michele, Shaun and Dana and adored "grump" to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob with Lodestar BUV, probably Napier and celebrating his 90th birthday with wife Eileen at Cooroy 15/02/2014. I am heading up to Brisbane for the service on Friday. He trained many pilots, especially on the Lodestar and DC3. A real gentleman. RIP Bob.
