The Red Checkers have just flown over my house heading west over Cook Strait. About 30 minutes ago the OS&R Co pair flew over, also heading west.
Must be trying to beat the airshow traffic...

The Hunter arrived in Queenstown yesterday direct from Ohakea. Dad said it did a couple of very fast passes over the airport followed by vertical rolling climbs until nearly out of sight, before coming in to land.

Hoping the weather smiles on Wanaka. The upper parts of NZ are in for a drenching it seems.

Wanaka always seems to be reasonably well sheltered from the weather, hopefully the same will be true this year.

A mate in Hamner Springs on Sunday sent me a txt after he experienced the joy of being buzzed by four F18's... it had been a while since his ears had enjoyed such music... Pete

Well....that's me all packed and ready to go tomorrow morning.
Now I've just gotta make sure I don't sleep through the alarm and miss the early train over to Wellington.
That would be a real bummer if it happened!

I love Wanaka at this time of year, I reckon it is one of the nicest places in NZ - even without the warbirds. With them it is an amazing place. As we have many, many overseas readers on the forum it would be great if some of you can get and post some scenic photos too of the lake, the mountains, etc, as well please. We had some stunning shots from the 2006 show on a thread here and they got a great response. If you can combine both, warbirds and scenery, that would be even better.

I'm hoping to get a clear view of Aoraki on the way past.
I'm flying on a direct Mount Cook Airlines ATR-72 service from Wellington to Queenstown, so won't be quite as high as in a 737 or 320.
Fingers crossed that it is clear over Aoraki-Mount Cook National Park tomorrow.
I got some awesome photos of Aoraki while flying down to WOW2008 four years ago.
Two years before that (2006), I flew down to Dunedin (on a 737) and drove a rental car over to Wanaka from there. I got some awesome photos of Aoraki and the surrounding mountains that time too, although the Southern Alps were much further away, so I had to use a big zoom lens.
Mind you, some of the best photos I ever took in Aoraki-Mount Cook National Park (and across the Divide in Westland National Park) were on foot in the hills, way back when I used to indulge in that sort of thing (see my Avatar photo). However, I hung up the tools about ten years ago (although I've still got those tools hanging up in my shed) and since then I've mostly seen it from the air.

It might be a bit late but have any of you guys organised a place to meet up on saturday at the show. Maybe the new Texan at lunch, open to suggestions, and won't be offended if nothing arises.
