Still no news that the Hurricane might be flying... I guess not as there have been no reports of it being test flown this week This year's programme looks a little "so-so" to me... no drawcard from overseas like the Zero at the last show. Still i'm looking forward to taking the family, have a gold pass this year so for the first time i'll be able to spend some time on each of the three days and have a proper look round.

It might be a bit late but have any of you guys organised a place to meet up on saturday at the show. Maybe the new Texan at lunch, open to suggestions, and won't be offended if nothing arises. I'll be in my usual place with the noisy buggers in the back-row of the Gold Pass grandstand, right down the end overlooking the comentary bus. When you hear one of the airshow commentators make a comment about "the peasants in the cheap seats overlooking us who are giving us a hard time" you'll know it is us they are talking about. Currently on the train approaching Petone. Flying out of Wellington heading for Queenstown later this morning.

Beautiful shot Gavin. I love those Central Otago golden poplars. I don't know why we never see them looking that good elsewhere.

Another great shot Gavin, sure is a beautiful part of the country. The sounds of a v12 buzzing around the skies certainly adds to the beauty of it yeah cant wait.
Packing up and heading down as soon as I can organise the wife and school finishes. Well I know when school when finish but just unsure about the wife, hope she doesnt log on!!
Enjoy your weekend everybody, if the weather stays they way it is today in ChCh it will be grand

RE the golden poplars Dave,You will find the cold climate has a lot to do with the golden display. Fungus up here [warm climate] causes fungus to kill the leaves in autumn.

Aoraki-Mount Cook and Mount Tasman were looking particularly gorgeous today when I flew from Wellington to Queenstown with Mt Cook Airlines. Mind you, the entire Southern Alps were a picture, as was the West Coast and the Tasman sea as a backdrop behind the mountains. I took a few photographs, but unfortunately they weren't 100% due to the usual problem of slightly dirty airliner windows with the sun shining on them. I've been trying to upload a couple of them to Photobucket, but Photobucket isn't co-operating at the moment, so I'll try again later.
The weather in both Queenstown and Wanaka this afternoon has been clear blue skies, no wind, no clouds and warm temperatures, although it started to get a wee bit chilly when the sun set below the horizon. Hopefully the weather will be a cracker for the entire weekend.

Grrrrrrrr.....Photobucket is playing up and won't allow me to upload any photographs.
So no pix from Warbirds over Wanaka until they get around to fixing the problem.

It is bloody dry at Wanaka Airport.
Driving in this morning, the dust from the car in front was totally obscuring visibility.
It reminded me of Warbirds Over Wanaka 1990....it was extremely dusty that year.
A RNZAF C-130 has just arrived.

I also understand the one or two of New Zealands well known airshow pilots have flown the Hawker Beechcraft T-6C Texan at Wanaka this week and found it an excellent performer. As those would have seen at the Ohakea airshow earlier this month.

It won't be there I don't think.
The show featured on 3 News tonight, some nice air to air footage of the Fokker and Sopwith, interview with Gene de Marco, and an organiser assuring they won't have any traffic issues like Ohakea...

Footage on TV3 was far superior than TV1 in my opinion. Some great air to air footage I agree. It does pay to get in early at WoW.Traffic issues are not usually an issue at WoW . Sorted!

I didn't take a single photograph today (well...apart from a couple of photos looking out over the lake early this morning from my accommodation). Today was for taking a look around, shopping, catching up with friends and other people I know. Tomorrow (when the airshow proper begins) is when I'll start taking photographs. I also understand the one or two of New Zealands well known airshow pilots have flown the Hawker Beechcraft T-6C Texan at Wanaka this week and found it an excellent performer. As those would have seen at the Ohakea airshow earlier this month. The T-6C Texan was displayed in formation with a Havard today. And that shocking American comentator who dronned on when the T-6C Texan was displayed at Ohakea appears thankfully to be absent.
