There was some nice footage just now on 3 News. It's good to see the black Air New Zealand Boeing 777 displayed. Good to see Simon Gault too.

Yes, who'd have thought perfect weather two weekends in a row for the country's too biggest airshows, and also earlier in the year Tauranga too! Someone up there is a warbirds fan!

So did the P-40K fire its guns?

The P-40N fired its guns, other memorable formations were two Dakotas with two Spitfires and two Mustangs, and the Avenger lead two Kittyhawks and the Corsair. The Yak 3 pair was great to see and a lot of pairs and three ship formations were on display. Following the mock attack nine WW2 fighters flew together. Sean Perrett closed the show each day with a solo display in the Mk IX Spitfire and that really took me back to when Ray would close the show in the same fashion.

Thanks so much Gavin and those who have posted so far for the photos. Much appreciated from one who could not be there!
Nice to see the weather Gods were smiling on Wanaka and great to finally see Doug's T9 at Wanaka.
The two Yak-3s would have been fantastic to see as would S/L Sean Perrett closing the show in Brendon's Spitfire IX.
Certainly would have been a nostalgic and moving moment Gavin, reminiscent of the late, great Ray Hanna. Do you remember John Lanham closing WOW 2010 in the Spitfire to a pre-recorded personal message from Dame Vera Lynn? And Mark Hanna closing WOW 1996 in the Me-109? Also two extremely moving airshow closing acts.
Look forward to the rest of the photos.

I'm amazed how slow the Wanaka pics are to appear on this thread. So here's a few humble point and shoots just to keep the thing alive until the big guns post more. Loved seeing this bird back in friendly skies again. Forum member Mit did a great job out on the runway with the white ovealls and bats waving off the Avenger after an aborted deck landing. Either that, or it was some groovy new dance he was pioneering. ;D

Ok, just allow me the one "proud father shot." Son Jason realises his dream to fly himself into Warbirds Over Wanaka. Friday evening arrival. 6pm. Hired Archer II EBZ from the Mid Canterbury Aero Club. Escaped detection by the dreaded Luggate Faction, who were probably at the bar by this stage. The dreaded Luggate Faction. A Luggate Factee (is factee even a word ?) OSRC Corsair resting. A magnificent show turned on by this machine yet again. Never tire of seeing it perform. Warbirds Dakota had a full roster of joyrides booked across the weekend. When I called past the tent on Friday there were lots of SOLD OUT notes alongside various flights. A Good sign ! Nice story in todays paper about a guy who saved up the 3 grand required for 20 minutes in Robs "Dove of Peace." The guy has never missed a show and earned the money required by taking a "side job" with a security firm. Described the flight as worth every cent !!!!!

So good to see the Blunty back at Wanaka. Thanks "V" for helping make it so. As you can see in the background of the top shot, the Hurricane was pulled outdoors and on display. it looked a little lost and lonely there actually. I wonder who its next owner will be? I would so love to see it in the newly enlarged Air Force Museum of New Zealand. Trev, the Lotto winner from Te Ka-Something-Arather, . . . . could you please make this happen?

Thanks Aeromedia. I have been waiting all morning for pics to start appearing. I had to post a few of my own to fill in time. See overseas preservation thread. A major pity about the Hurricane not flying. If it is going to be sold then it has to be to a kiwi to keep it in NZ.

Rumour I heard was that the cost to insure it (Hurricane) to fly for the weekend would have been $70k. That's assuming the owners would have wanted it to fly and they may well not have.
Years ago I heard that the cost to insure a single fighter for one show was 50k + so its a hugely expensive business.
Which is why every single time I see a WWII machine display I view it with huge appreciation and the knowledge that someone has either paid massive money or is taking a big risk.
Its never the same old same old for me.

Hear hear Peter. I appreciate every single display I see, even if it's the Harvards that we've all seen hundreds of times I still have a huge appreciation for them.
Well done to Jason Mac for realising his dream and beating the Faction too.
Did the announcers confirm the sale of the Hurricane or is it all just a rumour that Beagle started?
Last time I went there for an airshow was 2006. I recall how gutted everyone was when they announced the sale of the Spitifre. It seemed like the end of the world for NZ warbirds. Now 6 years on the scene is far, far more vibrant and exciting with future shows that will feature three Spitfires, a Tempest, Mosquito's, several P-40's, Venom, Anson two Yak 3's, Fw190 and much more, on top of the regular attendees. Awesome!
