I had a great weekend at the show - the SAA annual "SportAvex" fly in was held at the same time. I didnt manage to get my Adventurer there as I'm still not checked out in it to fly solo, but the weather on Friday and high winds on Sunday would have made it quite an exercise anyway. I got lots of photos of the show, but they are all pretty well like what has already been posted, so I wont add any, except for this pic of some goodies I brought back from the Awards dinner: At the back is my Wings Award certificate to mark the first flight of CKE On the Right is the "Sport Flying Trophy" awarded for best member contribution to Sport Flying Magazine during 2011 - Which I'm pleased with as I enjoy writing articles. On the Left is the "John Borman Trophy" for best NZ designed and built homebuilt. this was a real surprise as normally an aircraft has to attend in order to get an award. In this case the award is presented so rarely that the judges decided to recognise the completion of the aircraft. Very humbling! Pretty stoked with these - I was a bit depressed about going without the plane, but this has made my weekend....

On Friday I went to a SportAvex seminar in the museum and the Hunter had proper RNZAF Kiwi fuselage roundels Probably done so the RNZAF invite the Hunter to Ohakea to celebrate the RNZAF's 75 year's of history! As close as there will be to a flying Skyhawk!

The most impressive aircraft at the show in my opinion was the jet-powered Rutan ZK -LET NZ's stealth bomber. Match that with the Cricket single-seat stealth fighter and we now have a combat wing! We'll need an air to air tanker then - the Jet Long EZ has an effective endurance of about 15 minutes!

Well done Bruce!
Thank-you so much for all the photos guys! The Strikemaster looks impressive, I'm amazed there are such focused images of the Hunter in flight, and to see a BD-5 running again in NZ is great.
And thanks, Peter - I'm glad someone took a photo of "Eric Williams flies his Lycoming 400 HP Piston Engine 1.1 tonne fertiliser and spray payload plane" ;-) - more masterful "journalism".

We'll need an air to air tanker then - the Jet Long EZ has an effective endurance of about 15 minutes! So we should see notice of a change of name to Rutan Short-EZ?

Sparrow, you can modify your post to display the photos by adding "img" tags around the link for each photo. Click 'modify' on your post, which will bring it up in an edit screen. Select the link for each photo, then click the 'Insert Image' button above the smiley faces. You can use the Preview button on that screen to check how it will turn out.

Great photos, as I was a few miles up the coast at Onemana with a paint brush in my hand, I dont feel so bad about missing out. One question though, over the weekend we had plenty of aircraft transit down our bit of coast, including yaks and a few helicopters. We certainly arent on the direct Tauranga - Ardmore route, so why so much traffic. Do they dogleg to Fays Mercury island strip or to Whitianga for coffee? Any ideas ??

Thanks ErrolC,I thought that might be the case, just didn't get time to try it.Have tried the 1st one,but it's not there now. Will give it a go tomorrow.I don't use photobucket type sites anymore, but I run a forum which has postimage org on it,it's down on the lower left below this box I'm typing in,and is real handy,so simple.

A number of the Yaks are based at Pauanui, and on Sunday the SAA aircraft had a fly away to Whitianga - with specific beach town waypoints to attract attention!

Amazing pics and what a weekend. But the bar is now set sky high for 2014!
I'm sure Jeff Hunter from NZ Warbirds has a little horsey voice like mine was on the radio this morning.
