Thanks, that is cool that it the model was made by squadron members, and it's great that it was brought home.

The large scale model of the Huey was made by RNZAF members in East Timor. The tail boom was made by Rotation 2 (I think) the forward fuselage was made by Rotation 5 and the main blade was made by Rotation 6. The forward fuselage is made from a plywood skeleton frame (all scaled up from the actual drawings from the maintenance manual). The skeleton frame was then coverered in heavy canvas to give it shape, then finally in a cotton sheet to give a smooth continuous shape. The was then painted in the actual aircraft paint. I think it took us about 2 months to build in our Spare time.

It had loads of public displays in there, including the RNZAF Musuem's display and the art exhibition. There were several Macchis in there but not all of them.

Damn, I wanted to have a look at them so bad! haha oh well There were a couple of Macchi's let out for fresh air '73 was in the AMS hangar (plus the forward fuselage of another), and I understand there were one or two in the new HTU/3Sqn hangars as well. I didn't get around to looking in there on the day, but I saw at least one Macchi fin over that way.

Well as usual the awesome photography of some of our members has given me what Teresa calls "Lens Envy". Shots of mine I thought were pretty good looked pretty rubbish! But I have a few which I think aren't too bad and some show off a few things not seen yet (unless as usual I haven't realised they have been posted already!) However two I know for sure aren't in anyone's camera are the first two. The first one was taken on our wedding day (6th of June 2005) in front of the Air Force Museum's Avenger, as some of you know a special aircraft for me. And we recreated the same photo at the Forum meet using Brendon's Avenger. Of course I forgot which side Teresa was on but you get the idea! Another view. Cheers, Colin
