Are there any numbers indicated for the aftermatch at that pub? Count me as three! I'll definitely be there and I'll make sure Dave is there, so that will be five confirmed (although I know there will be several others).
I presume everyone knows how to find the Horseshoe?
It's right by the SH2 roundabout at the northern end of the Masterton CBD.
CLICK HERE to view a map. You can either park in Queen Street and walk through to the Golden Shears Bar (it says Public Bar over the door) or else the entrance into the carpark is on Chapel Street (SH2).

Hay guys,
Don't know if anyone will be interested but I am running a 185 from Omaka to Masterton on the afternoon of Sat 19th with 5 seats available, which would get you there for the Sunday show. I can't offer a ride back on the Sunday unfortunately.
Any one interested give me a bell on 03 525 6167 or 027 220 3476 or send me a PM.
Cheers Mit

I hope Friday isn't a crap day. If the weather is not good, will the Mosquito still fly? Haven't used the above site before and don't know how to use it.

I should be there for Sat/Sun - along with Leo. Not sure about the accommodation side of things, others are organizing that. I'm just along for the ride. No doubt I will see others either at the airfield or in town. Look for the hat

The good news (at this time) is that forecast has improved markedly over how it looked this morning. It's now showing clear skies Saturday and Sunday over Masterton region. And Friday evening also looks clear. Fingers crossed.
JM, the maps represent a different quarter of the day and any purple and blue bits are rain, the more blue the more percentage chance of rain.

Yeah, but watch for the strong nor' west. I flew some friends down from Wanganui for one show there in time to see the Sopwith Camel turned over on to its back while parked! If you've gotta choose a day, for my money, I'll take showers over the wind any day!

It certainly looks like Sunday will have less wind, but the highest it indicates is 15kts SW > NW on Friday 13:00 to 19:00; and a 15kt NWester most of Saturday and calmer 5-10kt variable winds on Sunday (S > W) but fine every day with passing clouds.
KTJ - yes I am confirming myself and a mouse there on Saturday evening!

I'm feeling reasonably confident about the weather - it does look a bit windy on Saturday which might hamper some of the WWI aircraft but not so windy as to completely stop flying. Looks like the worst of the weather will be overnight rather than during the day.
Peter, not sure whether you've received any of the emails, I know there was a bit of a comms failure, but we're staying in Waikanae - will be flying into Masterton on the show days so we'll have to monitor the weather very closely to make sure we can get across the hills in the morning and evening. Quite a few possible options though, some just a bit more circuitous than others!

Will call in at the club late tomorrow AM Leo, just to get a full briefing on what is actually happening. Have received seating plan, little else.

A P-3 Orion was doing a bit of low flying around the Carterton-Masterton area earlier this evening when I was driving a Wellington to Masterton passenger train through the area. I first noticed it not long after crossing the Waiohine River and while heading up the long Matarawa straight. By the time I pulled to a stop at Carterton, the Orion was carrying out low circuits around the town (it would have been just outside the built-up area and probably about 500 feet above the ground). By the time I got to the Clareville area, the Orion had moved closer to Masterton and was in the process of carrying out several low passes over Hood Aerodrome, some very fast, and some slow with the undercarriage down. Obviously practicing their airshow routine. As I pulled the train to a stop at Solway on the outskirts of Masterton, the Orion headed off in a northerly direction, climbing into the distance and presumably heading for Whenuapai.
I drove past Hood Aerodrome on the way home from work, just to take a look-see, and the aerodrome transformation is well under way.

A bit more information and update info and photos are here... www.facebook.com/WOWairshow They are saying the Martin Jetpack will be there - with the V4 200HP 2-Stroke motor and twin ducted fans. Just for a bit of variation! Interesting hearing about the P3 Orion doing low level manoeuvres

I see that the Facebook Mossie Appreciation Page has stated that once the Mossie lands back at Ardmore this weekend, it will not be flying in NZ again. I was aware that there was some concern over how to fit it in a 40' box... does anyine know how they are packaging + shipping the beast?

Thanks Dave. When you say "special ship"... as in water sailing ship, not special air cargo shipping. I remember what Jerry had said at Dairy Flat...

My thoughts on this that the aircraft goes on a "float". Like a low trailer unit with lots of wheels. The Wellington Matangi EMU's came on these from Korea and they just roll in out of "Floating Bricks", those car carrier type ships.

Ok there is a special ship that comes into Aucklands port around this time of year. That drops off and picks up super yachts, the thing can sink itself and the vessels float on. No!!!! I am not saying they do this for the Mossie . But they MAY be able to roll the aircraft on board complete as there is a ramp area that the ship could be backed up to?? The only hard bit would be getting the Mossie to the wharf complete I guess!. Oh well time will tell ... But it will be sad to see her go...

No, they take the wings and engines off first.
