Hmm, it's not very sharp, but I'll try to recognise faces. Left to right: John Lanham ?? Brett Emeny Bill Reid Jim Hansen (Veteran) Dave Phillips? ?? ?? ?? John Beeching (Veteran) ?? Murray Richardson (Veteran) Allan Speirs (Veteran) Gene de Marco Gavin Trethewey ?? Stuart Goldspink ?? ?? Keith Skilling Warren Denholm Tom Williams My Uncle Ian Sutherland from Masterton, 92 yrs old, 1941-45, 36 sorties 44-45 as a Lancaster Bomber Pilot, DFC; was only there on Saturday . He was not there on Sunday. Has 2 other Star medals and several medallions. A pity he did not get picked up for the Sunday as well... I was so glad they picked up Ian for the Saturday show - he really loved it and was so thankful they gave him VIP treatment. He was very erudite and detailed when I questioned him of his WWII exploits and of his Lancaster - well more than three so he said on Friday night. He had to remote land two of them to wrecking airfields, still getting his crew home safely. My own Dad was too young for enlistment into the Navy - his choice.

There were lots more veterans there on the Saturday. I met several who are not in that photo.

Just a couple of quick ones............
In the vets pic Les Munro is 8th from the left.
Zac, ref the Kiwi commentary, did you not hear Sara Randle with the TVAL and Old Stick and Rudder Co aircraft on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday together with Sqn Ldr Pryor of the RNZAF on Sat and Sun? He was on for over three hours all up.

Here's a quick movie I did. Apologies for the quality, it was only my hand-held camera and it's hard to pan flying aircraft. (click on the pic)

What happened to the P-3 display on Sunday? One high speed pass (with the bomb-bay doors open !!) and buggered off. Maybe we weren't meant to hear on the commentary that "the P-3 has suffered a fault"....in the background. Ha, maybe they sheared one of those doors off at 400 knots !!

pretty sure the operating parameters of the bomb bay have the doors closed at that speed, but I have been wrong.

And where was the Warbirds Dakota?
I was chatting about its absence with somebody on Sunday morning, but I cannot remember who. Then I put it out of my mind and didn't think about it again. But the fact is the DC-3 was missing and that is extremely unusual for a large airshow like Wings Over Wairarapa.
Did they have technical issues? Lack of bookings? There must be some reason for the non-appearance.

I was told that the Warbirds Dak was not invited to WOWairarapa in 2011.

I did, I don't want to take anything away from the excellent job done by Trevor and yourself, but I suppose I just found it jarring to have Kiwis as "guest" commentators at a New Zealand show. No offence intended.

Zac, No offence taken. I understand where you are coming from. My invitation to attend was extended at the dinner following the Mosquito First Flight display at Ardmore. Peter MacQ (aeromedia) and I had been asked by the organisation of that Mossie display to undertake the commentary for that fantastic event and I was just as surprised to be asked to that as I was WOW.

In my experience of ad hoc New Zealand commentators that isn't always the case! So whoever the "token Pom"was and the Aussie, well done!

Not sure where the Warbirds DC-3 was, but AMY is at Fieldair for its 130hr annual service.

I'm not a fan of commentaries as such ,though do agree the WOW 2013 crew did a good job. I didn't however enjoy the volume ,anywhere near the speakers and you were deafened.
