Thanks Mumbles! That MXT could do some strange acts like tumbling end for end and yet somehow he came out of it in a controlled fashion. Fuelling that engine in -ve g conditions is obviously a specialty, and the stress ratings of the craft is well beyond what humans can handle... an impressive, noisy little beast!

I've just read the pacific Wings write up of the 2013 warbirds Over Wairarapa. They were very impressed and an excellent write up.

I've just read the pacific Wings write up of the 2013 warbirds Over Wairarapa. They were very impressed and an excellent write up. From a personal perspective, I think the Gold Pass setup at Wings Over Wairarapa this year absolutely left the Gold Pass setup at both Warbirds Over Wanaka and Classic Fighters for dead. And I wasn't the only person who felt that way.
I've never had a Gold Pass at Wings Over Wairarapa before, because I've always attended on the Sunday only, but I have always had a Gold Pass at Classic Fighters since the first airshow in 2001, and I have had a Gold Pass at every Warbirds Over Wanaka since 1992 (the first year they offered a Gold Pass enclosure & grandstand) apart from 2010 when I had a Silver Pass. So I feel well qualified to make a comparison.

Wings over Wairarapa manager steps downWairarapa News | 1:42PM - Wednesday, 03 April 2013MOVING ON: Wings Over Wairarapa airshow event organiser Liz Pollock at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton.AFTER the success of this year's Wings Over Wairarapa air show in Masterton, event manager Liz Pollock has decided to step down from the position.
Ms Pollock, who moved to the Wairarapa and began managing the biennial air show held at Hood Aerodrome at Wellington Anniversary weekend fulltime in 2005, has helped build the event into one of New Zealand's premier air shows.
"Following the phenomenal success of this year's Wings Over Wairarapa air show, I've decided it's an appropriate time to hand over the reins to someone else," Ms Pollock said.
"I've been privileged to see the event grow and mature over the years and to meet and work with some extraordinary people."
"I've also had a glimpse into the fascinating world of aviation and, will always look back on these years as a very special time in my career. However, it is time to for me to explore other opportunities."
Wings Over Wairarapa air show director Tom Williams, who has been involved with the show since its inception in 1975, said Ms Pollock's contribution to building the event had been invaluable.
"Liz has achieved all that we required and much more since she first took on the event manager's position in 2005. She has grown the event with each subsequent air show so that the range of display aircraft, entertainment and food, visitor parking and traffic management have all improved year on year."
"This is largely as a result of Liz's experience and professional management."
"The Sport and Vintage Committee, who have worked very closely with Liz, wish her every success for the future."www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/local-papers/wairarapa-news/8501797/Wings-over-Wairarapa-manager-steps-down

Ok, I know this is an old thread, but WoW 2013 was the best airshow I've ever attended and well worth the 6 or so hours drive down from the Mount. Here's 'The Symphony of the Skies'

This is rather cool. "Watch from inside the cockpit as three World War Two fighter aircraft (Curtiss P-40, Supermarine Spitfire and de Havilland Mosquito) sweep in during a mock 'attack' at New Zealand's Wellington International Airport just prior to the Wings Over Wairarapa airshow (Hood Aerodrome, Masterton) in early 2013."

from the Wairarapa Times-Age....Airshow and bus company strike gold at regional awardsBy VOMLE SPRINGFORD | 6:39AM - Monday, June 23, 2014TWO Wairarapa-born enterprises swept the board at the Wellington Gold Awards 2014 on Thursday.
The Wings Over Wairarapa 2013 event won the Vibrant Gold category for event, hospitality and visitor facilities.
Tranzit Group won the Supporting Gold category for professional services and infrastructure.
Tranzit managing director Paul Snelgrove said that, while it was a nationwide company, its roots were in Wairarapa, where his ancestors had grown the business from a single bus between Carterton and Masterton to a fleet of 600.
"It is an immense achievement for our family and our team but also the Wairarapa. To be recognised twice in the evening highlights the passion, dedication and incredible talent in the Wairarapa."
Airshow director Tom Williams, who attended the awards night, said everyone involved had taken a lot of satisfaction from winning.
"It was great to see the event recognised for its huge success in 2013. It's a story about vision, dedication, voluntary contribution and community benefit."
WOW community trust board chairman Bob Francis said the accolade was great for the region. "We are delighted with the Gold Award, we are quite proud of it."
He said it showed the success of the new organisers, who turned the airshow around after the 2011 event ran at a loss.
The awards were held at the TSB Arena in Wellington and celebrate excellence and enterprise of business in the Wellington region.
Destination Wairarapa general manager David Hancock said the awards reflected how collaborative the region's business leaders were.
"The Wairarapa is renowned for hosting world class events, from the biennial Wings Over Wairarapa airshow through to Toast Martinborough."
"These all need great infrastructure to support them and this is where we are fortunate to have Tranzit ensuring visitors and locals are transported to and from these events."
The two businesses plan to work together again for 2015's airshow event.www.nzherald.co.nz/wairarapa-times-age/news/article.cfm?c_id=1503414&objectid=11279678

In the print edition of today's Wairarapa Times-Age, there were two photographs accompanying that article.
The first photograph was of the Wings Over Wairarapa team at the Wellington Gold Awards event, including Tom Williams looking extremely smart wearing tails & a top-hat; and John Lanham looking really dapper in a tuxedo & bow-tie. The other photograph was of Tranzit's management team.
Sadly, the pillocks who manage the website at The New Zealand Herald chose to only put the photograph of Tranzit's management team with the article online.

What a bloody marvellous thing to have won that award. Tom and his crew deserve every accolade they get for their dedication to the unrivalled success of Wings......... but I'm guessing that all of that praise falls a distant second to his ride in the Mossie. Well done !
