I saw a television advertisement for this airshow last night. I have never seen this airshow (or any other foreighn airshow) advertised on TV here before. Very interesting.

Saw the ads too, don't recall seeing this advertised on NZ TV before. I'm heading across for 4 nights with a bunch of mates from Chch. A couple of us have decided to go in style and are going over via AKL on the Emirates A380 in business class as a bit of a treat. They put up some great specials a few months back when they launched the new AKL - MLB service This will be my second Avalon show, the first one I attended six years ago was fantastic

For those few forumites who have not been yet, it is well worth the cost. While I believe the NZ aviation scene cannot be beaten for quality, the sheer quantity of aircraft over at Avalon is staggering.

Should be a great weekend! Will be v. interested to see what else the USAF brings. And seeing the Hudson, Sabre, and Meteor again will be seriously cool.

We'll let you know!
Just a reminder that we, that is Mumbles and I, are attending, and staying at the Rendezvous Hotel. Thursday to Sunday. It looks very much like the Raptor will display! Among others!

I saw somewhere else that the tracker doesn't have its paperwork sorted yet, and Avalon have a history of leaving aircraft that they know won't fly on their webpage. So, maybe on the Tracker.

B-52? I've seen the one in Darwin, wonder if it will be airborne?

Not the Darwin one! That was demilitarised when it was donated.

I can remember a B-52 flying over Richmond at the Australian Bicentennial Airshow in 1988.
You could see it coming for miles because of the trail of dirty, black smoke.
That smoke trail reminded me of an early Qantas 707-138 powered by water-injected turbojets that I saw takeoff from Christchurch when I was a young fella. It left a dirty black trail that hung around for ages after it departed. And the noise was excrutiatingly loud!

Not the Darwin one! That was demilitarised when it was donated. I meant the one headed for Melbourne. Hope so.
