Even a static CV-22 would be cool to see! Hopefully there will be plenty of photos and videos shared!

I sat in a V-22 at Mirimar in 2008, and had a good chat with the crew chief (no flying display). The amount of complexity evident looking at the cabin ceiling (there is a hell of a gearbox up there, and so many pipes/cables) is staggering. Hope it flies, but assume it is coming in a C-17 rather than down from Darwin.

A reminder that Plane Crazy Down Under podcast will be doing daily audio reports from the show. With a team of seven, they should be able to do good coverage. www.planecrazydownunder.com/

They explained a lot of what goes on behind the scenes (eg why the B-2 didn't show). Well worth a listen. FYI ASDU have clarified that the V-22 will not be attending.

People who have been listening to the episodes of the Wings Over New Zealand Show where I have been interviewing Noel Kruse will be interested that he and two mates were the ones who started the airshow that is now the Australian International iarshow at Avalon. When they founded it in 1977 (I think he said) it wass originally based at Schofields. I hope to delve into this interesting part of Noel's history in a future interview.

Yesterday was a great day out, my focus was to have a good browse through the Expo pavilion then the flight line / static displays. It was impossible not to stop and watch a number of the flying displays, great handling routine by the USAF C-17, F-16 and Aussie Rhino's. Whilst I've seen these displayed a couple of years back at a show in Williamtown they now have a great solo routine which really shows the jet off to its potential and of course these beasts are loud But the show stealer for me was definitely the F-22, an absolute pleasure to watch and a photographers delight with plenty of vapour pouring over its wings throughout some very high G manoeuvres. Seeing a Raptor flying was for me a dream come true. Getting ready to head out for brekkie soon then out for day two, I splashed out on a gold pass to ensure I could get a good spot for some aerial shots so today is long-lense day! Other enjoyable displays include the Sabre, Meteor, Boomerang, Spitfire, Constellation, Caribou, Catalina, Mustang and Kittyhawk. Photos to follow once back home early next week. I know there are a handful of other forum members here so I hope between us we can get a few good piccies to share. The wind was a pain yesterday, brilliant blue sky and around 24 degrees but at times the wind got quite strong and by 5pm it was getting pretty cool. Right-o, off for pancakes and into day 2 ;D

There were reports earlier that one of the F-22s was down on arrival Do you mean it crash landed?!! Or just landed safely? I never know what people on the web mean by aircraft being 'down' as I have noted lots of people (especially Americans) post aircraft are "down" meaning crashed. Why they can't bring themselves to saying the aircraft crashed is beyond me, as I thought all aircraft came down at some point in the flight.

Errol just means unservicable ( so was the US C17 today ) . Boy , what a day ! Im sure Im a little more deaf , and a lot more sunburnt ! As mentioned previously , the F22 was a real show stealer - totally awesome ! I have a few very amature snaps - but Im not likely to be able to view / post any for about a week ( but I did manage to get a snap of an Auster for Baz ) !

In the context I meant, it is indeed unserviceable - not sure about the exact derivation, taking down off a status board perhaps? I managed to find a in context example - relating to Canadian Sabres! www.427squadron.com/roar/roar_apr08_page_9.html

And a very vigorous handling display it it was too From the ground the dear old Hudson was almost going through a few 90 degree wing overs, very cool. The crosswind was a bugger. Glad it didn't stop the mighty Connie from her diplay
