Well, some thoughts on Avalon. Sam has some excellent photos, which I'm sure he'll sort out and post, but the Show itself was perfection on plate as far as organisation went. They should send the people of Wellington Traffic Management over there to see how it's done!
We used the V-Line trains to Lara, then immediately onto a seemingly endless supply of buses to the venue itself. The procedure was reversed on the way out, and it worked brilliantly. Those V-line trains incidentally run at 160KMH!, and could go faster but for the track limitations. I got that from talking to the train crews!
The Friday evening show was magnificent with the Constellation stealing the limelight, but there were other excellent displays including the use of flares. The fireworks at the very end were one of the very best displays I've seen anywhere. The Meteor brought back a few memories, as did the Avon Sabre, but the Temora Canberra which was there, didn't fly.
In Saturday the USAF C17 taxied out for a display, then taxied back for what the announcer described as "security issues" Whatever it didn't fly, but the RAAF display C17 outdid it anyway! The F16 was brilliant, as were the Super Hornets, but none of them came close the the F22 Raptor. This aircraft uses all the superlatives : it's that spectacular. It's manoeuvrability is stunning. At one stage it stopped in straight and level flight, and just sat there!
Right, now for a "hot of the rumour machine". I was talking to some RAAF Air Cadets on Sunday, who assured me, direct from the organisers, that the RAAF is to apply a huge effort to the next Wings over Wairarapa, and they couldn't even pronounce it until I said it!

Hi Phil, the Temora Canberra didn't head down to Avalon this year. I think the Canberra you saw would have been the resident Avalon one. Any day with a Canberra in it is a good one!

Is it definitely Wairarapa or were they confused with Wanaka?

Nope, I was wearing my Wanaka 2000 cap! They seemed to know it wasn't Wanaka, but struggled with the pronunciation of Wairarapa! I should note that there were literally hundreds of these lads involved in the air show, doing all sorts of things.

Wow, Air Force cadets with a direct line to the Chief of Air Force AND Defence Minister............... Don't get too excited just yet - a lot can happen between now and 2015, especially in these fiscally tight times and with a federal election on the 14th September.

It was even announced at the Show itself that the years of The Avalon Show are numbered.

Look forward to seeing everyone's photos in due course, looks like a great show was going to go but have lined up some travel for later in the year.
I heard something similar last year at Ohakea about the RAAF wanting to strongly support an NZ airshow in the future but was Warbirds Over Wanaka 2014. It was mentioned that they wanted to make up for not being able to attend in 2012 due to supporting the RNZAFs 75th anniversary show and were not able to support both. I guess we will see, with all of the belt tightening going on who knows but the more NZ shows they can attend the better!!

I was hoping they would bring their super hornets over the Whenuapai this year, but there is no show at Whenuapai this or, so I guess they ain't coming, I hope they have one up there next year, I like the Whenuapai shows.

Just adding to others comments, what a great show. I had a blast over the two days we were there. I've got a huge pile of images to sort through, but here are a couple for starters. The Raptor; just wow. I've never seen anything like it. I've got some better shots of it in the stack, but I'm processing them as I get to them. Here it is on Friday afternoon: And from the also spectacular Tin Sticks Of Dynamite display: And I'm not a big selfie taker, but opportunities with a background like this are few and far between for me

Just digging through a few photos and thought I'd see how this looks on the forum . This is about 3 oclock Friday afternoon and crowds were minimal ( but picked up a lot , later for the night show ) . There was a LOT of walking along the flight line , but its not hard to see why , with giants like these lined up . Oh , despite the barrier in the foreground , there was good access to these aircraft ( think the cordoned off area was just soggy ground from memory )
